who even cares its high school wrestling it doesn't mean anything! so what you do good in high school so you can waist 4 years in college in a sport that you have no future of making money unless your a multiple NCAA champ. Grow up believe me half these kids your taking about could care less if they win or lose to an ohio or michigan kid cause in the end they aren't going to be wrestling the rest of their lives.
Remember Weber lost to two kids in Michigan during this season. He lost to Brumley and Morse. Morse is only going into his junior year.

Who is bringing anybody down? Commenting on a lose is bringing someone down? Nobody said they were bad wrestlers just that there are kids in MI that have beaten them. Nobody is being a sore loser about anything. Weber lost this match. People have to face it. Michigan placed better at Senior Nationals than Ohio did so Ohio fans need to face that. Ohio beat MI at Disney so MI needs to face that fact. They were close matches though and good competition. I'm not sure about the "can't be touched" part so you might want to step down from the high horse but as of now you guys are the kings of high school wrestling in my opinion.
#104
Samson August 1, 2008 at 6:50pm
Michigan people are sore losers Ohio won ok you can change the line up all you want it doesn't matter... Did you ever take the time to think that kids were hurt or just wrestled a bad tournament at Disney I'm sure you didn't instead you want to bring down kids like tank and magrum just cause they had a bad couple of matches SO WHAT its wrestling you win some and you lose some I would bet my house that if all these kids wrestled again in regular season and not in the summer it would be a different story OHIO WRESTLING CAN'T BE TOUCHED

I agree that Palmer would beat Weber. Ohio would win 103-119 without a doubt. MI would have 125. Not sure about 130. I think MI would win at 140 or 145. I'm also not sure on 152 but Michigan has three guys that beat Tank. If Burge went 160 I would put him for the W but it would be a cool match to see. Then I give Michigan wins at 171-285. I'm not sure where you get that Phillips would beat Bennet. His win over Roddy? Bennet was national champ. Not knocking Phillips at all I would just take Bennet.
#101
Mr. Ohio July 16, 2008 at 12:37pm
Michigander r u kidding me! how would Weber beat Palmer if he he couldnt beat Skonieczny. Palmer was beating Chase 5-0 and had him in the Peterson before the match had to be called due to an injury on Skonieczny's ankle. Also, Phillips would never lose to Bennett. u must be crazy.

All of you Ohio guys need to quit drinking your "were unbeatable" kool-aid. As shown at Disney Duals, Mangrum was 1-2 against Michigan kids. Suitor, Michigan's best 103, handed ranked Ty Mitch a 5-0 loss. So here is too you saying Steiber would pin him. lol. Kirk Tank, widely regarded as one of your top 152lbers went 1-2 against Michigan kids. After all of the folkstyle tournaments have been wrestled, this is how it would come down too...
103 Steiber dec. Suitor 3-0 Ohio
112 Taylor maj. Keselring 7-0 Ohio
119 Steiber maj. Rickard 11-0 Ohio
125 Stevens dec. Sergent 11-3 Ohio
130 Horner dec. Osterman 14-3 Ohio
135 Weber dec. Palmer14-6 Ohio
140 Morse dec. Spicel 14-9
145 Jordan dec. Thomas 17-9
152 Dong dec. Ortman 20-9
160 Burge dec. Cubberly 20-12
171 Bennett dec. Phillips 20-15 Ohio
189 Elsworth dec. Mangrum 20-18 Ohio
215 Dubose maj Scales 22-18 Michigan
285 Martin pin Hiles 28-18 Michigan
The only bias opinion on this match would be Weber over Palmer and I will hold true to it. Weber would beat Palmer. If you don't believe me, we will see in a few years when they wrestle in the Big Ten.

Magrum also lost to Bennett at Disney. Tank lost to all three Michigan kids. Spicel lost to his Michigan kid and barely beat an 8th grader from MI. Ohio has a lot of depth and talent but they still need to give some credit where credit is do. MI is moving up in wrestling.

as a Michigan resident I will admit that MI cannot compete with ohio when it comes to Top wrestlers. Here is MI top lineup in my eyes.
103- Andrew Brackins SR.( would have won SR nats if wrestled at 103, idiot)
112-Bryan Rickard ( wrestled 119 all year)
119- Cam Amateis Jr.
125- Zac Stevens SR.
130- Andrew Schutt JR
135- Mark Weber Sr
140 Jackson Morse Jr
145- Brian Hittle Sr
152- Jake Varilek Sr.
160- chris Eggert sr
171 Ben Bennet sr (Jake Burge also amazing)
189- Lj Helbig
215- Marcel Dubose (Travis Penttingill 2nd Nation)
285 Mike Martin ( Brett Corell All American)

look at the ohio jr high state championship on flowrestling, lots of up comeing bad boys in the state of ohio.
Jacob Burge took 3rd at senior nationals @171, but alpha'd at 160 i think he would beat jedd moore, and 189 lj helbig placed top 8 at senior nationals, what did magrum place?
#82
Ohio Boy April 6, 2008 at 1:04am
Michigander I see where you are coming from on many points, but David Taylor is most dominant wrestler in his weight class in the United States.
Who do you have beating #4 ranked Jedd Moore at 160, and #9 Cody Magrum at 189?
#81
MIch April 5, 2008 at 8:33pm
Michigan also had good wrestlers not go to senior nationals. Its easy to claim what could have been but its much more difficult to actually get it done. I don't doubt Ohio is the toughest wrestling state though. This year Michigan was just the better at senior nationals. Also an unfortunate thing to think about is that Michigan doesn't have fr,so or jrs at nationals. Under MHSAA rules its not allowed.

i have seen them in action. i am not stupid. the problem with you guys is that you believe that ohio will always be superior to michigan at all times. which is not the case this year. this senior class is very tough and they would knock ohio around. next year would be a different senario. i glad to see you give michigan so much credit. we have 3 very good teams going down to disney. lets see if ohio can showup.
#77
Michigander April 5, 2008 at 2:16pm
I will say that Ohio could easily come away with bonus points down below. but we would have two all-american at 112 and 119. so there is no way taylor would pin and steiber would pin. at the most majors. and yes, we would dominate you from 160 on up. if bennet had to pin, he would. he turned collins 2-3 times. marcel would stick any ohio guy and our heavyweight would major/pin any of you heavyweights. i am telling you. michigan would win in a fantasy match. now next year you guys would kill us. but michigan this year would beat ohio.
103- ohio 5-0
112- ohio 8-0
119- ohio 12-0
125- mi 12-3
130- ohio 15-3
135- ohio 18-3
140- mi 18-6
145- ohio 21-6
152- ohio 24-6
160- mi 24-9
171- mi 24-12
189- mi 24-15
215- mi 24-21
285- mi 24-25
and that is giving you the toss-up at 135 and us the toss-up at 140. we would more likely get a pin at 285. i really don't think our 103 would get teched. 2 x timer already. waldo isn't even the best 112 we have. good discussion. ohio is still head and heels over michigan right now. but we are gaining ground

Ziggy_x I will have to check that vid out. I know Collins and Burge beat Roddy and Bennett beat both of them so it would be interesting. It would also be intersting to see Burge wrestle Cubberly if Burge could make 160. Both were 3rd at nationals and Burge won the Super 32 and some other big tournaments. Thanks for you discussion and information without it getting heated like it tends to do on these boards.
#75
Ziggy_x April 4, 2008 at 6:10pm
Watch the Roddy, vs. Phillips video. Phillips absolutely dominated Roddy, and mind that that was the first week of his freshmen year. The score was like 7-3 (kickouts), but it looked like 10-0. Also, Ohio's 160, Cubberly got 3rd at Sr. nationals, and has beaten Winston from NJ (Yes Winston is probably better, but he didn't beat Cubberly the one time they met). Magrum is a top 10 nationally ranked 3x Ohio state champ and would have been top 3 easy at Sr. nationals.
Your honesty is appreciated and at least someone like you isn't being a jackass like the rest of us here.
#74
MrX April 4, 2008 at 5:17pm
Not so sure about that one. Bennett showed that he can dominate the 171 weight class. Phillips beat Roddy but how bad? I also don't see Ohio beating Burge if he is at 160. I admit I don't know much about Magrum at 189 but I know Helbig placed at Senior Nationals.
#73
Sorry, But No April 4, 2008 at 4:17pm
MrX, 171 would be a tossup, and 160 goes to Ohio, and 189 is Ohio easy.
#72
MrX April 4, 2008 at 3:44pm
Like I said Ohio would take 103-119 with ease. Maybe even some bonus points. Then Michigan would clean up 171-285 and 160 if Burge is there. This is a dual I would really like to see.
#71
In All Seriousness April 4, 2008 at 3:33pm
Furthermore: Here is the top Ohio kid's national rank listed first, then Michigan's in the same weight by AWN (top 12s are listed) then the dual score:
103-OH(3) vs. MI(-) Ohio 4-0
112-OH(1) vs. MI(-) Ohio 9-0
119-OH(1) vs. MI(-) Ohio 15-0
125- NONE Ohio 15-3

Lala April 4, 2008 at 2:46pm
103-119 would not be 9-0. Hunter won Ironman finals 11-2 against a TOP TEN ranked 103, and the Michigan 103 would not have been in the finals at Ironman. David Taylor would tech Waldo EASILY. Waldo is barely a top 25 wrestler, and Taylor has teched the 6th ranked wrestler. Logan Stieber is the only wrestler who could ever beat Taylor, and would easily stick Amaties. Logan pinned 2 kids in the top 18 at Ironman, and this would be no different.
you must not know to much about the sport if you think a freshman would tech bennett, phillips got pinned by the 3rd best 171 in michigan, and bennett is head and shoulders above everyone at 171 in michigan.
#68
Bonus April 4, 2008 at 11:41am
Without doubt ohio would get bonus points at 112 and 119 with Taylor and Steiber. Taylor probley tech/pin and L Steiber with at least a major.
#67
Michigander April 4, 2008 at 11:00am
First of all, Phillips would be the 4th best 171 in Michigan. He got stuck in 31 seconds against Kam Jackson whom is considered the 3rd best in michigan. Ben Bennett would turn him and stick him easily. And Burge is way to strong. Phillips is a great wrestler, and will be one of the best heavyweight wrestlers that comes out of Ohio. But proof is in the numbers. Here is how I see it with no bias.
103-119. Ohio 9-0
125 Michigan 9-3
130-135 Ohio 15-3
140 Michigan 15-6
145-152 Ohio 21-6
160-285 Michigan 21-21
Now i can tell you that Michigan will get bonus points at 215-285 no doubt. But i can also see ohio gettting bonus points at 152. Other than that, I think Michigan would pull it out in a fantasy dual

Flowrestling_x April 4, 2008 at 12:41am
Why are you people arguing about Michigan vs. Ohio? That is a joke, so don't waste your time. The only legit debate can be NJ vs. PA vs OH.
Ohio's state tourny is the weakest and NJ's is the strongest, but overall Ohio and PA have the best wrestlers. I'd say that OH is the most top heavy with names like Taylor, Palmer, Stieber, Phillips, who can beat anyone badly on any given day, but PA is so deep. I think that if OH, NJ, and PA wrestled EVERY wrestler in a single tournament, Ohio would have the most champs, PA would have the most placers and win it all, and NJ would clean up here and there.
#59
MrX April 3, 2008 at 8:11pm
Begold I wouldn't say they would get destroyed but I would put Ohio over Michigan. On paper it doesn't look like a blowout for Ohio. I think Ohio would take 103-119 without a doubt but the upper weights favor Michigan. 160-285 if Burge is at 160 would favor Michigan with maybe 189 being a tossup. I would also favor Michigan at 125 and 140.
fatboy285 that line up would get destroyed by Ohio's. And I don't say that to be hating on Michigan at all. It's just the truth. Graham High School would probably hold their own against them.

MIch April 3, 2008 at 3:41pm
Someone on here said "Somewhat scary to think how many Ohio wrestlers would be 4 timers in Michigan". Lets think about that statement. First off this is the result of one match and it wasn't in anyway a blowout. Second there is a reason Ohio has its depth. They have been more serious about wrestling for longer and put more effort into youth programs. If these Ohio kids had left Ohio they wouldn't have had that. Now Michigan is starting to become more competitive due to its growing youth programs. I think MI in the next few years should have more good showings like they did at this years Senior Nationals.

The fact is there really is not a chance in hell Michigan would touch Ohio in a dual meet. And if any Mich would like to argue just post your All Star Line Up!
O-H think again- Tank got beat badly at the disney duals last year by a kid that took third in michigan, the same goes for sulzer, and hiles just got smoked by corell from michigan who took third at hvy this year. i am sure with the other kids you metioned the same probobly holds true, with the exception of colby boyd, and tony jameson those two are studs. basically your argument sucks. Michigander, let's do it right here right now. Give me Michigans 103-285 all star line up, and I will give you about 12-14 Ohio kids who will dominate them.
I'll give you a hint: Chase Skonieczny would not going to be the one wrestling Weber.
And then I will say to you once more, LOOK AT THE NATIONAL RANKINGS BUDDY...
Or are they just biased? Oh yeah that must be it. right.....

in the next 4 years, michigan will dominate everyone. the 8th grade class is the best in nation hands down and the sophomore class is equally tough. you will see. we have to wait till senior nationals to prove our worth. we also take a couple of decent teams down to disney where we destroy ohio

With seniors they would....Guys like Jameson, Jordan, Boyd, Witt, Tank, Koldizik, Gambile, Sulzer, Cogar, Scales, Fisher ect. all would have racked up big points for ohio and most all would have likly AA'ed. Ohio only had 4 big guns show up to this tourney being Roody, Cubberly, Hiles and Skonieczny.

bucks513, Michigan doesn't have any kids that wrestle in the sophomore division. Under MHSAA rules Michigan athletes can't participate in nationa high school events. They can go to events like Fargo but none of the high school nationals. In doing so they would give up their eligibility. Thats why you will only see them in senior nationals. I'm pretty sure MI has sophomores that could do well at nationals if given the chance. There is a sophomore in MI that beat Weber this year.

the michigan sophomore class will do well at senior nationals?? i don't think MI even finished in the top ten in the sophomore divison, however ohio was in the top five like they were in every divison this year...

there was a two count, but like the guy said: you have to stop their momentum, he cant just roll through and get back points

OHIOWNSYOU March 31, 2008 at 5:24pm
By the way, I know we're both homers, but the facts back me up, and they're not so kind to your position. Take a look at the national rankings retard.

Granby-I was hoping you would get pronounce Chase's name right but you never got it. Thanks for your play by play, thanks for helping Martin bring this beautiful sport to our computer.
BTW- I can see Mark is a quality wrestler but in typical Michigan style can't be a man about a loss. Nice hand shake, or lack there of.

!?!?! March 31, 2008 at 12:07pm
NO BACKPOIONTS, ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Michigan apears to be a great wrestler, and a great wrestling state. Ohio kid apeared to be very fortunate that match. Congrats to both!

CMU March 31, 2008 at 11:34am
Wow... Weber was much better than that kid. What was the ref doing?!

Heyjb March 31, 2008 at 10:59am
Did you see what Metcalf did to Ohio's best? He smashed Lang and took it to Schlatter.
#28
Jb March 31, 2008 at 9:34am
Lets not forget about Michigan's BEST ever- Metcalf. He could not even win the senior nationals.Remember?

Great job chase! woody hayes would of been prod of you, beat the boys up north.
It's my creepy voice doing the play-by-play. I used to do Outstanding Sports Videos but that site is in limbo for the time being. Martin at Flowrestling is letting me help him so I'm glad to be helping him bring the sport of wrestling into your world & the others who don't seem to know the passion that all of us have inside us. BTW, Coach Clint Musser was very nice to me during the tournament.

Great job chase! and you will do a great job leading the flashes for the next few years!
oh and please count for me that nearfall, i at least a 3 count maybe even 4. plus weber has lost twice in michigan. so he isn't the only stud. our sophomore class will compete very well at senior nationals and I don't want to go into the depth that we have in middle school. ohio is going to get a beating from michigan over the next few years

Sure March 30, 2008 at 10:09pm
whos doing the play by play? he sounds so damn familair

Jb March 30, 2008 at 10:06pm
Typical MICHIGAN POOR SPORTS (as usual). Your dream team wonder boy lost and it would not matter if it went into OT (for those of you that wanted back points) Chase physically hurt the kid and mentally broke the kid !!

1st Period Reversal March 30, 2008 at 8:56pm
he got screwed on the reversal at the end tho, the ref called that really fast
#17
1st Period Back Points March 30, 2008 at 8:55pm
his back was exposed for the bare minimum of what one could call a two count

Joey_x March 30, 2008 at 8:22pm

The only bias opinion on this match would be Weber over Palmer and I will hold true to it. Weber would beat Palmer. If you don't believe me, we will see in a few years when they wrestle in the Big Ten.
103- Andrew Brackins SR.( would have won SR nats if wrestled at 103, idiot)
112-Bryan Rickard ( wrestled 119 all year)
119- Cam Amateis Jr.
125- Zac Stevens SR.
130- Andrew Schutt JR
135- Mark Weber Sr
140 Jackson Morse Jr
145- Brian Hittle Sr
152- Jake Varilek Sr.
160- chris Eggert sr
171 Ben Bennet sr (Jake Burge also amazing)
189- Lj Helbig
215- Marcel Dubose (Travis Penttingill 2nd Nation)
285 Mike Martin ( Brett Corell All American)
Who do you have beating #4 ranked Jedd Moore at 160, and #9 Cody Magrum at 189?
103- ohio 5-0
112- ohio 8-0
119- ohio 12-0
125- mi 12-3
130- ohio 15-3
135- ohio 18-3
140- mi 18-6
145- ohio 21-6
152- ohio 24-6
160- mi 24-9
171- mi 24-12
189- mi 24-15
215- mi 24-21
285- mi 24-25
and that is giving you the toss-up at 135 and us the toss-up at 140. we would more likely get a pin at 285. i really don't think our 103 would get teched. 2 x timer already. waldo isn't even the best 112 we have. good discussion. ohio is still head and heels over michigan right now. but we are gaining ground
Your honesty is appreciated and at least someone like you isn't being a jackass like the rest of us here.
103-OH(3) vs. MI(-) Ohio 4-0
112-OH(1) vs. MI(-) Ohio 9-0
119-OH(1) vs. MI(-) Ohio 15-0
125- NONE Ohio 15-3
103-119: Ohio 17-0
103-119. Ohio 9-0
125 Michigan 9-3
130-135 Ohio 15-3
140 Michigan 15-6
145-152 Ohio 21-6
160-285 Michigan 21-21
Now i can tell you that Michigan will get bonus points at 215-285 no doubt. But i can also see ohio gettting bonus points at 152. Other than that, I think Michigan would pull it out in a fantasy dual
1.)PA
2.)OH
3.)NJ
4.)CA
PA is definitely the best but OH and NJ is up for debate
Ohio's state tourny is the weakest and NJ's is the strongest, but overall Ohio and PA have the best wrestlers. I'd say that OH is the most top heavy with names like Taylor, Palmer, Stieber, Phillips, who can beat anyone badly on any given day, but PA is so deep. I think that if OH, NJ, and PA wrestled EVERY wrestler in a single tournament, Ohio would have the most champs, PA would have the most placers and win it all, and NJ would clean up here and there.

119- Logan Steiber 1 Ranked in Nation
125- Tom Pretty Not Ranked

135- Collin Palmer/ Chase Skonieczny 1 Ranked and Chase is probley 2 now.
140- Rich Spicel 16 Ranked and end season rankings will most likly have him higher
145- Ben Jordan 11 Ranked and will be higher when end season ranking come out
152- Jesse Dong 11 Ranked and will be higher when end season ranking come out

171- Chris Phillips 7 Rank and only a Freshman
189- Cody Magrum 11 Rank in nation
215- Matt Fisher 10 Rank in Nation
285- John Hiles 11 Ranked wrestler in Nation
The fact is there really is not a chance in hell Michigan would touch Ohio in a dual meet. And if any Mich would like to argue just post your All Star Line Up!
I'll give you a hint: Chase Skonieczny would not going to be the one wrestling Weber.
And then I will say to you once more, LOOK AT THE NATIONAL RANKINGS BUDDY...
Or are they just biased? Oh yeah that must be it. right.....
National Champ
BTW- I can see Mark is a quality wrestler but in typical Michigan style can't be a man about a loss. Nice hand shake, or lack there of.
