Winston beat Welch and then Welch beat Winston. 1-1, split. Not too much to talk about. Next year will be the tiebreaker.

It's so funny reading all of these people saying Welch would tech, destroy, etc. Winston. Well, you were wrong. I hope to see more battles between them in the future. I think the almost imaginary rivalry between these fans is actually good for the sport.

Think about who Vasquez drills with...and for anyone who knows Central Catholic, it makes sense why he's good. (L. Bland)

NJ Wrestler: Welch did not attend Fila because of an injury you probably saw his name on the roster.
He was a Dapper Dan member reason he did not attend Sr. Nationals.
He also is on a 127 winning streak. Winston recently lost to Clubberly.

Wrestling101 you are absolutley right. Howe is a man-child. He is in Indiana which is not as big on wrestling as California(Welch), New Jersey(Winston),Illinois(Polz), So he is a bit under the radar unless people travel the country to wacth wrestling like yours truly. So dont blame the big state wrestling fans for their lack of wrestling knowledge. Hopefully this will work itself out at senior nationals.

Everyone is talking about how Welch went a fill macth with poeta. He got smashed. Yea he got a late takedown but he almost got teched. That being said, Andrew Howe westled number 1 ranked Gregor Gillespie and lost 11-4. He also just beat Illinois high school 3xer Conrad Polz. He lost by 1 point to Indiana University 2x AA Brandon Becker and has beaten their pinning machine Kurt Kinser, who recently beat Ryan Lang of Northwestrern in the first round of the big10's

I love how people are completely talking crap about Welch. Nobody in HS has beaten him in almost 2 years. Winston lost just a month ago to Cumberly at the Ironman. There is SO much evidence that Welch is the best wrestler in the country that its silly to talk smack about him! All of you are so full of it. I want my 2 min of time back from reading those comments because they were the biggest waste of my time ever.

I've watched Welch in person several times and many more on video--he's pretty amazing. Wrestling up a class and beating Bland and then Danz in Sac. last year was impressive. Is he the best in CA?...DUH! The best high schooler at 160?...hopefully we'll see at hs nationals. I've never seen Winston, Polz, or Howe. Welch beat Yohn at Reno TOC just after his playoff football season ended and without much practice and certainly not in "wrestling shape." The invite to Midlands says a lot, too. I didn't see Winston, Polz, or Howe there...oh yeah--you needed to be invited. As for Welch "getting lucky" all the time...that's a good one. Good wrestler's create opportunities and generally force their opponents out of their game and into situations where "Hot_X" calls "luck."

Welch just got lucky. Anyone who has seen him wrestle knows he just gets really lucky all the time. I've wrestled against him before and he's just a little whiner. I can't believe that Vasquez gave up so easily against such a pud of an opponent.

Winston and Welch are both great wrestlers. Welch looks like a great chain wrestler and makes everything flow smoothly. Winston has the quickest reaction time I've ever seen on offense and defense. Winston is a bit stronger and I'd bet on Winston to win. Hey, you can't go against the BEAST OF THE EAST CHAMP!

Andrew Howe would get SMOKED by Welch. Welch owned up at the Midlands. Welch is the kind of freak you see once every several decades. I think the last person as dominate as Welch was Dan Gable. I don't think it was Cayle Sanderson, he wasn't as good as Welch in high school.

He wrestled Louis Bland in the semi-finals last year in SAC. then went on to beat Justin Danz in the finals.. Justin Danz was 07 State Champion at 171. Jason Welch actually placed 6th at Midlands. He wrestled 157 LBS not 165 at Midlands.

oh yeah last year in SAC he wrestled up and took on Louis Bland at 171lbs in the Finals and beat him like 18-6. the guy played football all season and started late because Las Lomas was in the NCS finals in Football. He is flat out the best in the country, forget some that kid from Indiana.

Welch is going to Northwestern because hes a smart ass kid. His only match he lost this year was a 165 pounder at the COLLEGE Midlands tournament to a wrestler named Poetta who is the #1 wrestler in NCAA's for Illinois. AND he got a takedown on Poetta. We'll see next year if "Howe" can even start. yeeaa!

I dont know who would win the macth. Ive seen the both wrestle in person and both are very impresive. Howe is alot more aggresive, while Melch is more slick on his feet. Should be a great big 10 macth for the next few years with Howe going to Wisconson.

jason welch is my favorite wrestler and is no doubt the best wrestler in high school. but if you've watched his matches from last year compared to this year, he did not seem as into it as last year. this year i think he got taken down about 5 times at 160 (which is still amazing), but i heard last year he only got taken down once all year at 160's.

although he seemed out of it this tournament, hes just so good that he could be asleep during a match and still win my major or tech. lol
