This ref would have loved nothing more than to call this pin...it would have made history. No one has won state their Freshman, Sopre and Junior year..and not won their senior. There are TWO refs..they would have called it. All you guys hiding behind your screen names and talking smack about my boy TJ are pathetic.

He looked pinned but the REF had the best angle and as it was stated before he was the type of ref that would have extolled..."Yeah...I ref'd that match" if asked about Jameson getting pinned. He didn't...and wasn't. Quit crying.

Having watched a 4 wrestlers get to the 4x plateau in the last 5 years, I have never watched 43 points scored in a match enroute to a 4th state championship. Tony is great for excitement but he CLEARLY escaped with his fourth...his transition to the college ranks might be a rocky one.

yw rudy, you totally beat me like way, you are the gnarliest wrestler ever. Not because your black but because you tossed me around the entire match, furthermore you pinned me a half dozen times but the ref felt the pressure, he knew what was on the line dawg..he knew i was a few steps away from makin history. Did you get the trophy in the mail yet?

never got him. watched it thirty times. always thought the third was closest, but tony j was most flat, in retrospect, the second time. and to come out with a reversal on that turn is no small thing. his right arm was shot after that first near. watch his succeeding rounds. but here's the beauty: he's down 20-18 going into the third in neutral. moreover, it's 20-20 with hendon down (obvious advantage) with less than thirty seconds to go and jameson throws in a flying cradle. what a match! never heard that type of crowd anywhere in wrestling. long live the the myth of the tony j! what true champions do. find a way to win.

ty tony i appreciate the comments, if i ever find that ref who screwed me over, i will first introduce myself, shake his hand and squeeze until his hand shatters, then throw him into a wall and as soon as he lands on the ground i will stomp him until he admits he made a mistake. just kiddin tony, i would never do such a thing.

I actually think Tony was pinned more than once. I think there is a level of denial, as well as fear of crowd disapproval (political ramifications), when a ref witnesses the defeat of a champion and choses to pretend it isn't happening. It's like the truth is there, suspended in mid air for a few seconds, and because everyone is shocked, they pretend it isn't happening. In this case, I can't help but wonder if subliminal racism was also at play. It's a shame, really, that Rudy was robbed of his championship. He is clearly the stronger opponent and the victor. Hopefully, he knows in his heart that he won, and the refs biases prevented them from affirming that truth. All I have to say is this: God, forgive them, they know not what they do.

Check this out i wrestled for Defiance and i would be a REF we will see how good he is when he faces up with Jaggers Palmer they were the real deal. Put Tony Jameson up in their shoes. HE was on his back more than 2 seconds are you kidding me if you were my ref we would have some problems cause he was in my opinion flatter than a pancake. And wat about when he sissyied his way out off his back before his should of been pin. Crappy call you have to be fare he clearly was pinned watch the videeo again. Tell me the results......

reply
#183
An Acutal Ref.   March 16, 2008 at 9:07pm
None of you know for sure if he was flat on his back... And let me remind you that a pin is "two seconds". I've been an official for voer 27 years and I have had so many close matches just like this one, but the kids just wasn't down for the full "two". 1 1/2 secs flat on the back is flat, but not a fall.
reply

CJ Wagenhauser   March 14, 2008 at 9:48am
It was a bad call and the ref knows it Tony JAmeson is the worst 4x State Champ that i ever seen HE just though he could walk in this and come up top with no problem. I am ashammed of that Reff and in he should be fired. Great match Rudy.

i guess we will never find out unless they meet head to head but i would say even if tony was pinned he was definitely the best wrestler in that weight because despite all the stupid things he did to get pinned he clearly could have scored on these kids without a problem for example at brecksville tony scored three easy takedowns on toal but he messed around too much and did something stupid and got caught

not taking anything away from jameson, but he was pinned and there were refs that said he was pinned. Great wrestler got caught in the state tourney and got the free pass for three time state champs going for their fourth. It happens get off the kids back he would more than likely dominate anyone on this message board.

I was sitting in the 1st section. The mat they were wrestling on was directly in front of me. The first time Rudy pinned Jameson was questionable. The next two times Jameson was on his back there was NO QUESTION that he was pinned!!! Rudy Hendon won this match. He WAS robbed! We'll see how Tony does in college. I think it will be fun to see him get beaten...like it was fun to watch here.

tony's style is his own.you people don't get it.his style scares you guy's.it goes against everything you've been taught.that seems to make you all upset.
i don't think he cares what you all think.if you think his style is slopy get on the matt with him and prove it.i know alot of wrestlers who talk crap like you guys, then after he kicks you're butt, you have a change of heart.ohio state seems to like his style.since you guys are the real experts, you should take over ohio states program.if he was pinned it would have been called.there are two ref's on the mat.and you're telling me you have a better view than them.if you ask me you all are jelly belly's.

Call this young man what ever you want, just make sure you add "4 time D1 State Champ"at the end.I have never seen so much buzz about a wrestler, both negative and positive.Hopefully,he takes all the negative stuff in stride and continues to go out and have fun,and of course win for the Bucks.According to some of the posts, that match was the biggest conspiracy since Kennedy got shot.Ridiculous.

As an official, all I can say if I wish I had a dollar for every time everyobody in the gym told me somebody was pinned when i could clearly see they were not. 1 part of both sides of the pinning area for 2 consecutive seconds that you can see. Easy call to make from the stands but in folk, there are not touch falls. BTW, I find it extremely unprofessional for any official to "off the record" say he was pinned.

1)poor rudy couldn't come back mentally from the match in time for his next one

Jim Brown   March 2, 2008 at 5:12pm
By the way...stopping the match was for wrestler safety....obviously Hendon's forearm was tight across Jameson's throat and corroughted artery which is potentially dangerous. Realistically - look at both the first and 2nd time Jameson goes to his back. He is NOT pinned and the ref didn't even get down FLAT to his back and his EAR on the mat. Now at the end, Ref's ear is too the mat and I assume it was pretty close then...but not a fall or it would've been called. NOW if Hendon's technique was a little bit 'tighter' he may have pinned Jameson. Excellent match w/ two "SCRAPPER's" and the better scrapper won. I saw NOTHING wrong with the match and NO ONE can say he WAS pinned because the RESULT is all the matters. He is a 4 time state champ now and congrats to him and the BG kid.

Congrats to Jameson and the BG kid was SO close...but hey...all you folks who sat behind us quit whining...Jameson has always taken risks...and this video proves Hendon was out of position to pin him...the only time it even looked CLOSE to a pin was @ the end in the head & arm. The ref had the BEST angle in the whole place...so deal with it. It WAS A SLOPPY MATCH...good call...Congrats to Jameson, but he did not look his best...and the BG kid career'd.

My guess the booing happened for a couple of reasons:
a. We expect a 4X State Champ to dominate!
b. It was an extremely sloppy match!
c. While most refs. are darn good, the fans know that some would be reluctant to call a pin a pin on a potential 4xer. Note he looked awful pinned from the 200s section during the semis as well:)

TJ is hands down the most exciting wrestler in O-H-I-O! To have the moxy, cool and confidence that He does at his age is to be admired. As far as this match goes unless You're down there You'll never know. Why do You think the Refs lay down and put an ear on the mat? You can't do that from the stands or a video! Hats off to TJ Congrats x 4! You've been a lot of fun to watch!

As far as Refs influencing outcomes...oh yeah. Happens all year long. They're human so not a damn thing You can do about it. That's life, people do it at their work everyday. That's why wrestling is the greatest sport there is. It teaches these kids more about life and themselves than any other. The best You can hope for is that They realize it and learn.

A Ref   February 29, 2008 at 6:59pm
I'm not affiliated with Ohio but saw this video. As a referee for many years, I've learned one thing; I've never made a bad call from the stands. I'll attempt to be rational for the irrational but how can someone in the stands or even at the table see what a guy six inches to 12 inches away see? Judging from these responses and the ones on jjhuddle it sounds like 80% of Ohio was mat-side. The official has a great view and is in great position to look for the fall. He didn't call it because it was most likely not there. Most fans of high school wrestling don't know what constitutes a fall. It takes either shoulders or scapulas held to the mat for two seconds. He may be stuck but can he stick him for two seconds?

I worked a state qualifying tournament last weekend and had a coach go nuts on me because I did not call a fall. He was convinced that I was screwed up and I suppose from his angle it looked like a fall. From my position I saw a shoulder and scapula off the mat. When both shoulders touched, I could not get a two second count even though the top wrestler was trying his best. Two seconds can be a long time.

YOU HAVE TO CALL IT LIKE YOU SEE IT. FAIR AND SQUARE. REFEREES JUDGE THE MATCH, NOT BY WHO IS WRESTLING. GET IT STRAIGHT

Bottom line is it would have taken some serious kahuna's to call that pin against a 3 timer looking for his forth this time around.

Class Act? Don't think. I've seen him and his old man start fights with people in the stands during matches. I saw him challenge a highschool kid to a fight in the parking lot after a match.

OSHAA Ref's Are A Farce   February 29, 2008 at 2:33pm
If you were there you know Rudy pinned him. Those Ref's should be fired and never be able to ref another match. The OSHAA should get involved. Rudy was scammed.

Hendon needed to get in better position a few times he had Jameson on his back, but regardless, the third time he put Jameson on his back, he looked flat.

is this jameson kid actually supposed to be any good? if he does crap like this all the time i don't understand how he can be a top ranked national wrestler. seems like you could pick him apart...

A Pin???   February 29, 2008 at 2:06pm
i understand rooting for the underdog, but there was never a pin there. The kid fought hard, and came about as close to pinning him as possible without actually doing it. but, im sorry, the way i see it anyone who calls that a pin is obviously rooting against tony because they dont wanna see it, or from bowling green.

That kid from BG got hosed something fierce. It's too bad when the refs decide the match and not the wrestlers.

First of all, stfu, im not from austin town fitch, second of all, you can't even tell if he is flat on his back back the ref is in the way you idiot. It still looks to me, but it does look like his body is twisted away, and time ran out anyway.

there was a kid from kentucky this year that was undefeated throughout high school with three state titles and this year in the state finals he lost his first match. it is kentucky wrestling though. anybody can beat anybody it just depends on who has the better head and arm.

I can't figure out why Jameson continued to go up top with this kid after he'd been put on his back twice. Rudy looked very strong. That would have made history . . . first three time state champ to not win his senior year, but he pulled it out.

1. I don't think he was pinned at all, however this probably will be a wake up call for him. Expect some lopsided victories for jameson here on out.

2. Jameson is a class act. Watch his actions after the match.

Not sure if he was pinned--definitely looked like it on the headlock, but we couldn't quite see the far blade from that angle. Either way, Tony Jameson is my new favorite high school wrestler to watch. Who wrestles like that when they've already been caught a few times in the match, at the state tournament no less? Stupid, maybe. Entertaining, definitely. Even the roll through cradle at the end took some guts--why not wait for OT and hit your trip single again? I also like how the kid seems like a class act, despite his "showboating" style. True even when he loses (check the Breckensville match on ohiowrestling.net-multimedia).

Awesome match: although a shame if Hendon did in fact get robbed.
