Ben Askren (MO) dec 5-4 Roger Kish (MN)

In Kish's defense, his freshman year he pretty much missed the whole big 10 dual season due to a skin infection which set him back come tourney time and he still finished in the round of 12 as a frosh. Then as a sopre he falls 3-2 in the finals, junior year he gets upset by Varner in the semis and finishes 3rd. His senior year was riddled with injuries and he wrestled big 10's and ncaa's with one arm basically and still managed to make the round of 12. Had he been healthy that year,he would have been top 3 for sure. Yes everyone expected him to be a 4 time All-American and have a few national titles but the same was expected from CP Schlatter and he didn't live up to the hype and choked at nationals every year pretty much. Kish just had unfortunate luck his freshman and senior years with injuries and minor setbacks.

I think you are taking my use of the word "fizzled" wrong. Yes he was a great wrestler in college, but when a kid goes 260 somethin and 2, sets the national record for wins in a high school career, and becomes the only 4x state champion above 152 lbs in Michigans history. You expect him to do better then taking 2nd then 3rd and only being a 2x all american, and I bet if you asked him he expected to do better too.
