Anyone see that Grippi - Rugg match ? Grippi used the cement mixer on Cody who was unbeaten prior to that match.
Grippi's only loss before that match was to cody at the Eastern States Classic where cody won 5-4

All 3 of Section 2's returning champs repeated.

Zach Clemente of La Salle (145 pounds), Austin Meys of Shenedehowa (189) and Ken Altarac (285) also of La Salle successfully defended their state titles. Yaa Hoooo!
Section 2 came in 2nd behind Section 11 and Shen came in 4th as a team.
It was a great trny!
Congrats all Section 2 wrestlers on a job well done!
In fact, congrats to all wrestlers for even getting to the States!!!
Now, I wonder who got Most Outstanding Wrestler?

Third State Title For Austin Meys!

Austin pinned Matt Lowe of Wantagh (Section VIII), who beat Boley, with one second remaining in the first period to cap a 45-0 season and win his second straight state title.
Meys pinned his four opponents in a combined time of 3 minutes, 36 seconds.
Who else could get MOW?
I think Boley lucked out. Had Meys pinned him, which was very likely, Boley would be devastated.
Congrats Austin!!!
That's 2 of 3 returning section 2 champs repeating. One more to go.
Go section 2!!!

I didn't say it was likely. :)

In fact, I expect him to win convincingly and win MOW!
That would make 2 titles and 2 MOWs in a row. Not bad!

Section 2's three returning champs are in the finals.

Blue Devil you are sadly mistaken. Brandon Polcare is correct.. Nickerson and Jantzen were better (still are) but lets not forget JP O' Connor either. .. 4x state champ. true freshman year 5th at nationals. sophmore year 6th. in the most loaded weights. Hes gonna get on the podium the next two years also. Nickerson and Jantzen dont even need to be explained.

Brandon Polcare i've wrestled 152 160 and 189 and watch the 125 lbs and 130lbs a lot and there is no way that the lower weights are better than the upper weights... you can win at a lower weight like 125 without that much skill because you can push kids around that's not the way with the upper weight classes... but we definitely have fish at 189 but that's the same way with every weight class.
reply

Scott Latterell   February 28, 2009 at 7:54am
How Can yo not compare? Theres fishes in his weight class just like janzen and nickerson because everybody knows that they cant win the states with them in the class. He was a state champ at a low weight class and a high weight class more impressive than winning it at the same wieght every year. Plus Pin both kids totaling 45sec. come on now how can you not compare.

he wrestles 189 theres still some fishes at 189 dont get carried away
i mean the kid is a beast and i give him his props but u cant compare him to jantzen and nickerson ... even if he goes on to have an illustrious ncaa d-1 career he will never be the wrestler nickerson or jantzen are...
125 and 149 the athletes are far superior to the heavier weights ...
in my humble opinion...
meys is a stud will prob pin his way till finals but best ny has ever seen thats crazy talk
