LOL at this below response. What are the fastest growing sports in the country now? Lacrosse and Soccer. LaCrosse is a bit physical and soccer is about as non-physical as it gets. Before too long, unless some serious changes are made to how football is played due to more and more research dealing with concussions, those sports will surpass football in numbers.Anyways, it is not hard to get kids out for wrestling because of singlets. I coach at a very small school, yet manage to more kids out for our club, jr high and HS programs than most large schools with thousands more kids. It has nothing to do with a singlet. The new kids I recruit at all age groups every year, know exactly what we wear going in because I tell them. Sure its a bit embarrassing, but so is losing in front a bunch of people with no one else to blame but yourself. That does far more damage to a kid not wanting to do a sport, than a singlet.Other things that keep kids out of our sport, our tournament formats. We have to be some of the dumbest people when it comes to running tournaments. We sit in a gym for 8hrs plus to compete maybe 4-5 times over a course of about 30mins total. The rest of the time is spent sitting and waiting. How stupid is that? I can go to damn near any other sport and compete for 1-2hrs and I'm done, plus I'm competing for 40mins or more of that time. We lose more kids to poor tournament management, than we do to singlets, guaranteed.Track had 300,000 more boys participating and they practically compete in skimpy underwear. Heck, our singlets go further down the leg than track shorts do. Look at the sprinters, what are they competing in? Singlets. There are way more issues out there causing our numbers to be stagnant, singlets are way down on the list. Sometimes I think we would rather think of excuses why numbers don't go up rather than actually address the real problems at the top.

The flo guys go over the results of the fight shorts vs singlets debates and Martin does just a little more campaigning.
Again, singlets are not what is keeping kids from coming out. Parents not liking contact sports, kids being lazy, video games, internet, etc are way more detrimental to keeping kids out of wrestling, than singlets.Track athletes wear less than we do and it doesn't keep them from coming out for track.
I say you ask kids from 6th-10th grade. 2nd graders don't care what they wear as much as the older kids. 2nd graders really aren't too self conscious.
You are brilliant! funny how they managed to go shirtless Jason! "It cant be done" all the nay sayers say (mark Bader).... Still though, the fat kids can where tight tops.
Poor poor title to this video. Singlets did NOT win. We are will be conducting a survey of 2nd graders and Freshman in High School. As silly as that sounds they are the future and if they wont wrestle or are 50% less inclined to wrestle because of singlets I say throw em out....as much as I love em...who cares...its the wrestling that counts.
Also, have you guys considered the thought of fight shorts until highschool, then singlets? No high school-er cares about wearing a singlet, and especially not one who has been wrestling for a while.
You couldn't just ask them "which do you prefer" or "which is cooler." That is irrelevant, they probably wouldn't wrestle either way. The question would have to be a long the lines of "If you could wear THIS *Show picture of new proposed uniform* would you try out for wrestling?"
I think shorts look much better, but I think it feels better to wrestle in a singlet. IDK. I'm split.
I'm with you 100% Martin! I bet if you go through with what you said about testing it out at a grade school, you would get at least twice as many votes for fight shorts/compression shirts than you would get for singlets. Show them a college singlet and then a proposed short/shirt version of that uniform and only the die hard wrestlers would pick the singlet. At least half of the wrestlers would pick the short/shirt combo....NONE of the non-wrestlers would pick singlets. The point is we're trying to bring new kids into the sport. It doesn't matter what a bunch of wrestlers think about this topic.
Speaking of Lance Palmer.. How about someone gets an interview with that animal?? I'd love to see it.
