Dan Gable welcomes Flowrestling to his home and into his barn "Rocky Gym" where he does a little bit of working out. He is hitting a punching bag for his workout, but when Dan Gable boxes, he does it for wrestling. In fact, when Dan Gable does any kind of workout he generally tries to approach it from a wrestling point of view.

If that doesn't get you excited for this sport I just don't know what would.....some mad man in the freezing cold hitting the heavy bag....LOVE IT!!

get that head position on the bag. Anyone who has ever been to Iowa room has seen him where those gloves on all the time. for as good a coach he was, he says some dumb stuff. Martin- here is a challenge, go get Dan to critique Hawks like he did Burroughs.Ames, Iowa....the trials? somebody make sure the hawk club guys know that a granby isnt a good move to hit in freestyle.and burroughs too, since he has to improve on bottom par terre.

I bet Dan Gable was a secret CIA project who was raised from birth and programmed to be a secret weapon against Russia who not only beat them in Wrestling, but also was probably a secret ops navy seal assasin that is still top secret to this day... also, I would love for Dan Gable to coach the Senior wrestling tour against the sr. russian wrestling team, much like the Sr. tour in Golf. In fact, if we ever go to war with Russia, lets just pit Dan Gable against their best Sr. wrestler and the winner takes over the losers country. We could also use Dan as a secret weapon in our military as a special ops trainer against the russians, in fact I would recommend we use Dan Gable to coach any sport or military operation against the Russians, and Russia would not have a chance.

he will never get away from wrestling. not now, not ever. wrestling is part of him, and he is part of wrestling. most likely his last words will have something to do with wrestling. the dude's a competitor!

Does anyone wonder how things would have turned out for Gable had he not become a wrestler? One posted "mumbling...crazy homeless guy" but I'm thinking more along the lines of that guy at work who drives you nuts with all his unrestrained and scattered energy, his stammering, his "where are you going with this line of conversation" quality, his raw, babbling vibe...only to find out he's the leading salesman in the office. There weren't too many of his model to make it off the assembly line. I'm glad he was such a great wrestler and a fierce competitor but I am also glad he doesn't live next door...Ramble on Dan. Hope to see another clip deep in February of him beating the crap out of a steer at -20 (Celsius) in two feet of snow or something. Few out there can match his "brand" of obsessed, intense insanity. I have a feeling it is not only boxing he does in a wrestling way...I bet he focuses on how he uses leverage when he brushes his teeth in the morning! He probably Granbied into the world when he was born!

@Stielberg
There's no "Might have been" between Dan Gable and Great Wrestler. (Ask anyone from that era. You had to be there to understand how separated he was from everyone else in his sport.)

But you are onto something. When Gable was working out prior to the olympics in '72, when the Soviet Bloc was dominant in the sport, one of the Russian wrestlers was watching Gable go through a workout or warmup. After a little while he walked over to another American wrestler and asked whether Gable had a mental problem!! He'd never seen anyone work as hard as Gable was.

How did I miss this guy? This Mr. Gable has obviously missed his calling. While at one time, he might have been a trully great wrestler (I don't know, I don't really pay any attention to the sport), it's obviously time for him to consider acting. He seems to be at his prime for certain roles, something that the hood and hand gestures would play right into. I honestly think we could even do something without altering the setting, so it would be low budget. I almost think he has set this up, the spooky aspect, the open refrigerator, the crumpled plastic pool! - they guy is a remarkable genius with setting up a backgroud to emphasis his point, along with the haunting costume. Again, I ask: how have I missed this guy?

Mumbling about stuff, shadow boxing and dressed in sweats and boots. If you turned the sound down and didn't know it was Gable, you'd swear it was a crazy homeless guy.

Truly brings new meaning to the phrase "brimming with energy".

Gable is about 63, I think. Its interesting to see him jumping around and punching, on two replaced knees, and in the middle he's not all that winded.
I'm sure glad I never had to wrestle him. He was the hammer to many anvils.
I had to love the keeping the arms in against the body. Shades of Wesley Wes. And they both were all americans!! :)
