Jack Spates has been the head coach at Oklahoma for 18 years and will be stepping down from the position at the end of this season. He leaves the program with a smile on his face and he talks with Mark and Joe from Flo about his experience at the University and some of the highs and lows that he has experienced along the way. Just because he is retiring from coaching doesn't mean he is retiring from life, he will keep himself busy and plans on being more involved in ministry as well as remaining connected with wrestling.

When I 1st met Coach Spates he was then the Head Coach of Cornell. At that time I was an Alum who gave yr in an out to the Wrestling Program. Visiting the Campus I stopped in to watch a Practice, Coach Spates didn't give me but a moment to say hello and I was asked to leave. My donations ceased that yr and I didn't return to support the team until Rob Koll won me back over. Not a word like nice to see you--wish you can stay--but, or why not drop by at the end of Practice or see me in the office later..just a hello and goodbye...no way to treat a former Alum who was then giving some nice size donations to Cornell Wrestling. Rob Koll is 100% different. So, I think it was the lack of any sort of respect for a former wrestler and active fundraiser that gave me a sour feeling about the man/coach/person in Coach Spates.Telling this story only makes you sound like an entitled, elitist, shallow man. You withdrew your support from these kids because during practice Spates did not say more than hello to you? What mommy and daddy didn't give out enough hugs that week? |

Don't understand why some people don't like Jack spates. Seems like a class act and has built and maintained a solid program. When I 1st met Coach Spates he was then the Head Coach of Cornell.
