Some really great wrestling but way to much controversy. The video reviews with terrible video was not good. Dlagnev was amazing vs. Mocco. Herbert/Hasseman and Simmons/Felix matches were very good as well. All 4 athletes went after it. The Schlatter/Paulson matches were terrible, no action at all. Hopefully we will get some medalist in Holland.

The feeds are inconsistent. Once you get it, you need to stay on it because sometimes it's tough to sign off and get back on again.

what's up with this tournament? Either the brackets I had were way off or guys are allowed to enter the tournement on the day of the tournament. Nothing I had before showed Caldwell even being entered.
The freestyle in place now pretty much is ridiculous. How many periods have been won be scores of 1-0? You see a guy winning a match with scores of 1-0, 0-4,1-0. Idiotic tiebreakers and the sumo techniques to push a guy out of the circle. For the finals - do they come out with loin cloths on and lift their legs up as they get positioned for the match to start?

I'll give it a shot:

Simmons
Humphrey (longshot)
Paulson
Gavin
Herbert
Varner
Mocco
Would like to see Stieber and Metcalf win - just to get some young blood over to the World Championships, but don't think it will happen.

Cejudo is definitely not competing nor is Askren. I don't know about the others.

So looking at the participants list for the World team trials on Trackwrestling… I see some names that I was not expecting.

Askren, Ben-74kg
Cejudo, Henry-55kg
Lawal, Mo-84kg
Pendleton, Chris-84kg
Can anyone confirm these? Not to say these guys are out of wrestling by any means, but I know Askren and Lawal have been fighting. Chris has been in the OSU room? Cejudo has been traveling non-stop, and I heard rumor he was/is boxing, but has he been wrestling? I once heard Terry Brands (could’ve been Tom) say that kids are dreaming of State Championships, but instead they should be dreaming of World Championships. High School kids aside, are our “best” doing that??

It would be amazing if Caldwell Caldwell Caldwell won the Trials since he isn't listed as being a participant. Too bad, I would have loved to see a rematch with Metcalf - assumign the pairings would have gone that way. I don't see anyone beating Paulson based on the Nationals, but at that level, half the field is good enough to win it with some breaks and just peaking with conditioning (aka the J. Jaggers syndrome)

I should have planned on going. Would love to see a rematch between Caldwell and Metcalf. Metcalf. Paulson, Schlatter and Gavin at 74 will also be interesting. Steiber win would be incredible for a junior at a Division 3 school in Ohio with his only loss to David Taylor as a freshman. Too bad Taylor isn't giving it a go - just wonder how he would do at this level.

why dont they have trials on the east coast or midwest ? they need to get more college wrestlers at the trials. its not easy for a college student to afford a plane ticket too las vegas. also we need to get a major training center in the midwest or east coast. the fila juniors and university have a much better turn out than senior opens. U.S wrestling need to figure out a way to get more college guys to the senior opens.

GOOD LUCK whoever is on the team

for greco 74kg WILL be lester. nothing against deitchler i think hes a great wrestler, but i think this is lester's year right now. he just seems so much larger than deitchler and without that intense goal of making the olympic team during high school i dont think that deitchler has the mental edge anymore

Pretty harsh there bro, did Deitchler kill your dog in a previous life or something? Problem is ... our best wrestlers (Cejudo, Cormier, etc.) won't be there ... Harry's awesome, no doubt about it, but damn, why the bluntness with Deitcher? He's story did a lot more for wrestling than people admit to or realize.
