walter peppelman will absolutely be in national finals this year. i dont see anyway it cant happen. he wrestled dake in EIWA finals last year(the match was relatively boring) i however feel like he would be a darkhorse finalist this year. he wont win but he can make the final. |

in all honesty my feelings are that they need to get something done this year, that means a couple AA's and 7 or 8 qualifiers. the guys that qualify gotta do something on the backside of the bracket and not go two and done like winston did last year. i am so confident molinaro is getting these guys amped for this year that molinaro may save goodales job. still a couple blue chippers out there like ashnault who may go to RU because they hired his brother. this is a very big year on and off the mat for goodale to keep his job in my opinion...but again, thats my opinion and means nothing haha |

Steve P, honest question, as I know it must be frustrating over the last few years watching Rutgers not meet certain expectations. |

i understand that completely. alot of people dont understand the jumps that theyve made since goodale came in as a team. they have extended their coaching staff to get a guy like molinaro in the room. hes going to show these kids what it takes to get on the podium. I am making the bold statement and saying melde, mason, and winston will all american this year. even though my opinion means nothing to anyone haha |

rutgers does have a couple kids that can place this year stop hating on them so hard. molinaro in that room will pay off big time. melde at 141 coming off a redshirt year will succeed with 141 wide open. mason at 149 will be a good shot to AA along with winston squeezing in at 157. visicaro is a year or two off at 165, zanetti is a monster at 174. give billy smith a couple years at HWT and he will be there. |

Some coward below wrote: "Taylor has a history of beating guys he lost to in Freestyle. He split with St. John whom he has beaten 3 times in folk and lost to Poltz whom he majored this past season." First off, the St. John / Taylor freestyle matches were close (and in fact the last time they wrestled folkstyle is was a fairly close 6 - 3decision). The match between Taylor and Dake was not close -- Dake destroyed Taylor. I am not saying that Dake would definitely win in folkstyle, I am just saying that if I were a betting man, I put my money on Dake. |

"Okay so these are just a few boxing examples off the top of my head. But people talk so ignorantly about this whole Taylor-Dake match they had. Like it is set in stone Dake would smash Taylor if they met again. It was freestyle, not folkstyle. There was no top or bottom. We did not to get to see a full college match. Was Dake better prepared for this event? Is Dake just a better freestyle wrestler? Did the Howe match take away Taylor's confidence? I do not know. |

Taylor has a history of beating guys he lost to in Freestyle. He split with St. John whom he has beaten 3 times in folk and lost to Poltz whom he majored this past season. Furthermore, It's hard to justify saying Dake is clearly better in folk off one result in free when Taylor only had 15 minutes to recover from his 3-period match with Sponseller while Dake had an hour. Anyone who has wrestled understands this is a factor. Finally, Dake has shown of history of gassing in folk while Taylor has a nonstop motor. I could see Dake getting taken to the woodshed in the third period of a folkstyle match. |

I was one of those guys who thought Taylor could beat both Howe and Dake. But after watching the World Team Trials, it's pretty clear that Howe and Dake are better -- at least on the feet. Both Howe and Dake soundly beat Taylor with moves that could have been used in folkstyle, too. So as a betting man (I do sports stats), I'd give both Dake and Howe the advantage in any style. There is a sort of trend with Taylor: he demolishes lower ranked guys and those very few instances he wrestlers a high caliber dude, he has probs. I think he has "tailored" his style to get bonus points against inferior opponents, which has hurt his strategic wrestling. |

I think Dake takes it. St. John is a real threat, though I think Dake can handle it. It's gonna be Dake and St. John in the finals. Dake will be the first 4x NCAA champ who never took a redshirt year (you can't at Cornell). Cael lost to Peter Jenn his redshirt freshman year, and Peter Jenn didn't place at NCAA championship, so Cael would not have been a 4x undefeated champ had he been subjected to the same rules. For that reason comparing Dake to Cael or Pat Smith isn't fair, because both had reshirt years. |

Kyle Dake will attempt to become part of history this season as he will chases his fourth NCAA title, looking to join Pat Smith and Cael Sanderson as the only ones ever to achieve this feat. Looking at the wrestlers returning at 157, there will be plenty of competition with all but one All-American from last year back, as well as a number of round of 12 and round of 16 guys. Returning NCAA runner-up Derek St. John of Iowa will be back and when 100% healthy he is a force for anyone.
Kyle Dake has wrestled and defeated St. John and third place finisher Dylan Alton from Penn State. One guy who he has not wrestled yet is Jason Welch of Northwestern, this is one guy that might be able to match the athleticism of Dake and it would likely be an entertaining match to watch. Other returning All-Americans include Nebraska's James Green who is just about as talented as anyone and Clarion's James Fleming who is nasty on top. Regardless of where he ends up (157 or 165) Kyle Dake is going to be tough for anyone to beat when you take his athleticism, wrestling ability and confidence that the Cornell senior will bring with him to the mat this year.
Is there anyone who can derail Kyle Dake this year?
Returing wrestlers at 157lbs:
1. Kyle Dake- Cornell, Sr.
2. Derek St. John- Iowa, Jr.
3. Dylan Alton- Penn State, So.
4. Jason Welch- Northwestern, Sr.
5. James Flemming- Clarion, Sr.
7. James Green- Nebraska, So.
8. Walter Peppleman- Harvard, Sr.
Round of 12. Steven Monk- North Dakota State, Jr. (likely to wrestle 165)
Round of 12. Josh Kreimier- Air Force, Sr.
Round of 12. Frank Hickman- Bloomsburg, Sr.
Round of 16. Jake O'Hara- Columbia, Sr.
Round of 16. RJ Pena- Oregon State, Jr.
Round of 16. Tommy Churchard- Purdue, Sr.
