i agree cali's state tourny is one of the best, but if you made ohio a one division state tournament just like cali, it would be just as, or probably even more tough.

Not even close. Compare PA's numbers to any state. An argument can be made for #2, #3, etc.

I don't understand why the debate is such a problem on this site.. I'm from PA, I think PA is the best. Kids from CA will think CA is the best. Kids from OH will think OH is the best, so on and so forth.

I mean, the only thing you can really talk about is how the kids do in college and high school, and you gotta look at it generally.. Cael Sanderson came from Utah, but obviously Utah doesn't breed record breakers like OH, PA and NJ. Once it gets to the Senior level, area of origin doesn't matter, because everyone's training with everyone else at that point - the RTCs and the OTC have people from all over the USA that are training in one room. The only thing that's really can be examined is High School strength, and with no individual cases being considered.

ok ohio has some of the best wrestlers, but California is tougher cause the fact that there is only one state tournament. the reason why that makes it tough is because in ohio one of the toughest school might not be in your division so its easier. But in Cali you can't get lucky and not be in the same division as the toughest schools in cali.

Let's look at where recent Olympic medal winners came from:
1. Varner - California
2. Burroughs -- NJ
3. Scott -- PA
4. Cejudo -- Arizona / Colorado
5. Sanderson -- Utah
6. Abas -- California
7. Jamill Kelly -- California

These are all the USA medal winners from the past 3 Olympics. California takes the trophy here, which isn't surprising because Cali folks are probably the best in the nation with regard to take-downs.

anyone who thinks their state is tough is welcome to move to Pennsylvania and participate in our high school wrestling. after 4 years there, you may then make your decision of toughest state

You know what's the biggest waste of time on wrestling websites?... Participating in a "my state is tougher than your state" debate. Completely, utterly subjective and pointless

Ohio wrestlers go straight to MMA and may I add kick ass there

Mr Woody 9 months ago

Lets see. Olympics dont really tell much. Ohio guys all go for MMA where the money is.

Ohio who? 9 months ago

You want to see how good CA is than come out to the Freak Show -- our State Qualifiers beat State Champs. http://www.nuwayvegas.com the only event where you will truely see exactly how tough CA is top to bottom. Last year there were 29 states present -- Cadet world team members ddid not place, Fargo champs lost three times -- k-12-- 1650-1750 kids.

Northern Boy 9 months ago

Ohio is good it's tough to to say the best wrestling but they haven't won any national tournaments they are better in high school those 2 school are extremely good schools but that's it they don't have any more depth than other states I would put Illinois and Iowa ahead of them by far
