Excellent points all, Scott Torppey.

Freestyle scoring is confusing even to experienced practitioners and fans of the sport. This is a fact.
I would argue that the confusing rules of this style of wrestling is exactly what's contributing to the sports demise.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the idea that wrestling is being dropped from the Olympics. Then all I have to do is watch a match like this one and scratch my head as to how that 1st point was awarded and it makes a little more sense why wrestling is in trouble.

Another reason why freestyle rules suck. Tamasello takes first shot and is in on leg. Gilman is in alittle trouble and simply whizzers at edge of mat and gets one point because Tomasello goes out of bounds first. What kind of stupid rule is that? One guy does all the initiating and most of the work and the other guy ends up scoring. These scoring rules do not promote good wrestling. They promote fear of taking shots and cautious wrestling. And that is why we have so many matches won by the score of 1-0, 1-0 or so many going to ball grabs. Someone in power needs to wake up!!!!
