Sounds like a great kid, humble and appreciative thanking his family and all of his coaches. I know who sunny abe and the strittmatters are but who are mikey p and brad shrum?

In response to PA wrestling's moronic comment... All you've got to do is look at the top 20 high school rankings on intermatwrestling.com and see how many PA guys are in each weight class. There are far more PA guys than any other state. You could also do the same by looking at this year's NCAA championship brackets. PA is the creme of the crop. Why do you think the Dapper Dan is an annual showdown between PA's best and the best from the rest of the USA?

who is a loser off the mat on that team?

Anonymous Coward 1 year ago

It's about time Penn St. recruited someone with class. There are a lot of losers (off the mat) on the team.

Congratulations to a fine representative of our sport! Now, go get your college education and while you are at it perhaps title or more!

This is a serious question, not trash talking.

I looked at the results for the 2010 FILA Cadet national championship and the 2011 Junior Freestyle Fargo national championship and there wasn't a PA wrestler in the finals of either event at any weight class. If PA high school wrestling is so good, why aren't they winning titles at these events? Where were Megaludis and Gulibon, among others? I can only assume that most PA kids aren't going to these events. If that's true, why not?

Great to know this is the type of kid PSU is now getting. Nice kid and awesome attitude.

Why argue about this? This kid just won 4 PA state championships so who cares about all the other BS. You guys need to recognize what an accomplishment this is and chill out. Of most of the comments I read they sound like this to me:.."oh this is kid is 4 time state champ so what...big deal...there are better wrestlers...etc" Stop whining and give this kid credit. Yes, we will see but for now enjoy what he has done and be happy for him.

Response to "champions" pt.2 1 year ago

What I said about Pat Smith's place in history, was only considering his ncaa career in comparison to the other greats collegiate careers.

Also, Dake has 2 more NCAA titles than David Taylor. Who is a better wrestler?

You seem to suggest that it's a fact that David Taylor is a superior wrestler to Kyle Dake. That's far from a fact if you ask me.
Also, yes, among the modern ncaa wreslters who were allowed 4 ncaa appearances, Pat Smith is arguably in the top two. I probably would put him number 2, the only guys other than Cael that I'd probably put over him would be some of the greats who were only allowed to wrestle 3 years on varisty (Hodge, Uetake, Koll, etc.)

To answer yuenglings question of the 10 4 time piaa champs

didn't the one CA 4X get beat by PA's Ciasulli in HS and then pinned by Baglio at the DD?

4x state champ! Wow...what an accomplishment. 4x state champs aren't so common. California almost had one this year in Alex Cisneros, but Cisneros lost in the finals. California is probably the hardest state, which is why there has only been one 4x state champ in the history of California high school wrestling.

Congratulations

May God bless him. He seems like such a nice kid.

Seems like a great young man. I'll look forward to following him throughout his career.

The dude is right about multiple h.s. state championships. In high school, Mike Nevinger won NY state titles as an underclassman. But by the time he got to Cornell, Kyle Dake was clearly a better wrestler. In Iowa, Derek St. John won 2 state championships. Nick Moore won 4. Who is the starter in Iowa's lineup? Nick Moore came from a wrestling family (his older brother wrestled at Iowa, too) and was better as a h.s. freshman and sopre. Or, if you prefer, in college Pat Smith won 4 NCAA championships. Is he one of the two best of all time? Heck, no. He couldn't even make the Olympic and World Championship teams, never mind win a medal. Also, Dake has 2 more NCAA titles than David Taylor. Who is a better wrestler? I'm glad you can count, but it doesn't appear you can think critically.

We'll see... 1 year ago

If you think this kid is the best, we'll soon find out. The night before Olympic Trials starts, he wrestles Cory Clark in Iowa City. Clark signed with Iowa, so they could meet up a lot in the future. And if JG is really good, he'll be in Penn State's lineup next year (not redshirting) and face Matt McDonough. I remember all the PA people saying how Megaludis would kick MM's butt this year. I haven't heard much of that lately, though.

awesome job... I don't care who you are that's phenomenal! way to go Jimmy! I'll be sure to follow him throughout his career. He's definitely one to watch.

@ multiple championships....what are you talking about? obviously if you win 4 state championships you are better than a 2x state champ. Hence the greater number 4 vs. 2.

Only time will tell if he is one of the best? Seriously? 4x state champ in PA, obviously already one of the best. Going to wrestle for Penn State.....kind of already proved he is one of the best.
Gulibon beat Cruz last year who is a 2x runner up and 1x state champ.
...and I just wasted my time proving my point to a person who has no idea what they are talking about. Obviously not worth it.

anthony pruchnic 1 year ago

did John Rizzo...Richland 220 class wrestle yet?

multiple championships 1 year ago

Just because you win 4 state titles doesn't mean you're a better wrestler than a 2x winner. It just means you were better at a younger age. He was one of the best freshman and sopres to wrestle in PA. Only time will tell if he is one of the best.

Yuengling 1 year ago

Thanks, I didn't know that. Looking for Marsteller next!
