I hope McIntosh doesn't start riding. His matches are ALWAYS fun to watch, because he sorta approaches the matches like a freestyle wrestler. If he starts that mid-west influenced riding emphasis it won't be so interesting.Freestyle is boring. No scrambling and the mat wrestling is an absolute snooze. After the 1000th gutwrench it gets old.. The US would be a A LOT better internationally if they wrestled folk and there was some monetary incentives for wrestlers outside of the WWE. The first thing the average person thinks of when they hear "wrestling" is a bunch of roided up men in tights. If the media spent as much time promoting wrestling as they did women's basketball we would be a powerhouse internationally.. McIntosh probably doesn't wrestle on top because he's not very good at the position. He'll never be a Kyle Dake. Lets get real, most people with a stocky and powerful build aren't maulers on top.. How he'll fare with the collegiate style is yet to be seen. Personally I think he'll be great but it will be an adjustment. |

The most important thing he is going to have to learn is how to get off the bottom against those tough riders, because he isn't going to run into anybody that is afraid of him like this kid and the others I have seen him wrestle. This kid, who I am sure is a great wrestler, has terrible position the entire match. It was not because of McIntosh's setups either. When McIntosh runs into a guy that keeps great position the entire match, and he can't take him down at will, he is going to struggle to win close matches if he cannot get off the bottom. I am not pointing out this match, because he got right out, but I have seen him get ridden for extended periods of time in other matches. That 1 minute creeps up on you pretty fast at the next level. |

McIntosh is going to have to start riding if he wants to make it in college. On the other hand, if he is gearing towards a future in freestyle, then keep what your doing on your feet!I hope McIntosh doesn't start riding. His matches are ALWAYS fun to watch, because he sorta approaches the matches like a freestyle wrestler. If he starts that mid-west influenced riding emphasis it won't be so interesting. |

Yeah, hope McIntosh goes freestyle. He's unbelievable on his feet -- his style is a perfect match for freestyle. Seems like there a bit more of an emphasis on take-downs with the Cali wrestlers, at least when compared to PA and NJ and Ohio guys. Over the years I've noticed that some of the top guys coming out of Cali (Mark and Dave Schultz, Stephen Abas, Jake Varnar, etc) have been absolute monsters on their feet. In a way, it'll be a shame to have to waste McIntosh's time emphasizing the mat wrestling thing for college. Most college matches half-filled up with crawling around on the mat...boring!!! Man, they gotta get rid of that crap. Like Dake's NCAA match with Molinaro: 6 minutes of crawling around. Nothing against Dake -- he's fantastic and just following the rules -- but it's freakin' boring. Let the guys focus on take downs like McIntosh. That way we won't suck so bad internationally. For all the money the US spends on wrestling (the US spends the most by far), it's unbelievable how bad we suck. |
