After many close attempts at making a world or olympic team and falling just short, Jared Frayer took out Brent Metcalf to make the 2012 Wrestling Olympic Team. The series with Brent Metcalf was particularly dramatic as Metcalf beat Frayer in the 2010 Trials to make the team in a tough decision. Jared Frayer, 2012 wresling Olympic Trials champion.
Dear Mr. Frayer I am an avid wrestling fan and i had the pleasure of seeing you hit that throw in time square,i just want to bring to your attention that i have a friend who has a daughter with down syndrome and she is such beautiful child and she attends gigs playhouse in nyc (a national down syndrome awareness group) and because this last minute i would like to extend from both GiGi's playhouse and myself all the best through yourOympic journey - go get the gold.
I have mixed feelings. Metcalf qualified the weightclass. That should count for something in the equation of who goes to London. That may have cost him the olympic berth as the qualifyer was pretty recent and perhaps Frayer was more fresh and rested for the trials. Metcalf looked bad at the trials....like someone who was overtrained. I hate to say this but Frayer is unlikely to medal in London. The only USA guys who have a chance are those that dominate here (Burroughs, Varner, Dlagnev).
Frayer is now 5-2 against Metcalf and Frayer's style is better suited for international competition, his front head/chest locks are the best in the business and he can turn anyone with them, he is highly motivated and will be in great shape, Iowa fans need to get over Metcalf losing, they are not going to "pick" him over Frayer, Jared earned it and he is going to London. Let's get behind all of our guys and bring some medals home.
Jared has been a man on a mission since the early 90s when he was this short chubby kid with sick skills. Now he is lean and mean, and has a great shot of medaling if he puts it together. Good luck Jared, and GO FLORIDA!
