when you flex in that arena after a win like that, i think thats when you leave humanity and enter beast mode

this video stil gets me so pumped up!!! (watch this vid and turn up the volume!!)

true but look at it this way. 1 year ago

that is true. but what can you say, hawkeye fans are spoiled with the dynasty gable built, then with the brands bro's caring on the tradition strong. all they expect is to see iowa wrestlers win. and a good majority of them only care about their iowa wrestlers because out in that general region there is no professional sport teams, they only got the hawkeyes to cheer on. but i think now, after the trails, many iowans have gained a lot of appreciation to freestyle wrestling and will hopefully start following freestyle as they do to the hawkeyes!!

Best is subjective 1 year ago

@ atat, i agree with you as i was at the trials and was astonished at how those fans treat wrestlers from anywhere but Iowa. That arena was packed and the ONLY time u would here a positive peep out of the "fans" is when an Iowa guy would wrestle. Greatest homer fan base i agree completely, but fans of wrestling in general, not the best. Prime example is when Zadik wrestled Stieber. They were goin nuts at beginning of the match, but at the end when Stieber would b the victor u would have swore the entire place was empty. Instead of clapping for a guy who will likely hang up any future olympic hopes (Zadik) for a valiant effort and great history in Iowa, they just sat there like little brats who got their toy taken away. They cant bring theirselves to cheer or clap for anyone other than Iowa wrestlers, sad.

Hawkeye Arena in and of itself is an AWESOME facility that kills any other venue out there, but the iowa fans are what takes the fun out of watching an event there. Hopefully enough fans from other schools will attend the NCAAs nex year to make it a bit more joyful experience for everyone.

The "fan base" isn't quite what it seems. It's not supporting wrestling per se, but rather their home team. At the World Team Trials, when all the Hawks were defeated, the "fan base" simply left....the place was pretty empty.

This gives me chills every time i watch it.

15,400 classless individuals? 1 year ago

No other program could match this type of environment. They're all jealous. Just look at the fans in the background.

These are the best fans in all of college wrestling!!!

why is there no video with jordan oliver and david thorn earlier this year?

Anonymous Coward 1 year ago

Yeah, well Penn State sucks!

Stillwater sucks 1 year ago

When Minnesota went to Oklahoma State for the dual, there were 2900 people. When OSU went to Iowa, there were 15,400! Enough said.

These are fans! 1 year ago

I was watching some Penn St. videos recently. Even with a full house at Rec Hall you could hear crickets chirping during the matches. It was full of senior citizens who only occasionally made any noise. Carver Hawkeye ROCKS for big meets. If I was Tom Brands, I would use this as my recruiting video. Unless a kid grows up in PA, MN, or OK being a home state fan, you would have to be crazy not to want to experience this.

dake will never wrestle or beat taylor

What was the final score of the match?

@KimDouglass 1 year ago

Come on...to a pulp? Not able to recognize him? Oliver better figure out how to wrestle a complete match. He could hardly stand after that match. If he's going to beat Ramos to a pulp, he has a lot of hard work ahead of him.

Kim Douglass 1 year ago

I hated to see Oliver lose. Ramos wrestled tough which is obvious to see but Oliver is one of the best wrestlers I've every seen and will continue to get better. . I bet he beats Ramos to a pulp in March. You will not be able to recognize him after they meet again.

I think Jordan Oliver is starving to make weight. He wasn't gassed at the end of the match. He's running on empty because he's not able to replenish his energy store to go an entire match hard. By the third day at Nationals he will be keep eating a little more and by the time semis and finals come he will be a different wrestlers. That of course doesn't mean he will beat Ramos in a rematch. I'm only saying that Jordon probably should have went up a weight class this year. He basically has to pin his opponents early because he doesn't enough fuel in system to go 3 periods.

Kyle Dake would break David Taylor in half.

Anonymous Coward 1 year ago

@wrestlehard I will say that, assuming they were to meet later in the season, I would pick Oliver. However (and when I say this you should know that I am not an Iowa homer), Ramos wrestles for Iowa and Brands. He will be ready for a rematch. If there is one thing I notice about Iowa wrestlers, it is that they almost always come to wrestle when it really matters, so I do think that match would be close.

highlights 1 year ago

The Big Ten doesnt allow other media to broadcast their matches. Flo is just doing the same thing that SportsCenter does. They show highlights of the contest to show you the important parts. They dont have the rights to broadcast someone elses property. Do you complain that SportsCenter didnt show you a complete replay of the Steelers-Broncos game?

mike james 1 year ago

What was the point of flo filming the matches if we can only watch one minute highlights?

wrestlerhard 1 year ago

for all the true wrestling fans who love the sport and dont just follow and always favor one team(Iowa)..it is very clear jordan oliver didnt wrestle like himself..he ll be back and i really dont think it ll be close at all the next time

wow 1 year ago

enough with the highlights can we get the match... isn't that the point of flowrestling

I saw the Oliver/Ramos match in its entirety on the Big Ten Digital Network (when the feed wasn't getting hung up). In my opinion, Ramos wrestled a tough, defensive match. He defended Oliver's one shot and half-hearted finish, and he took Oliver down late in the match. Great match for him. Above his average performance.

Compared to other matches I've seen Oliver wrestle last year and this year, he looked low-energy at the beginning and totally gassed by the end of the second. No strength. No spring in his step. And anyone who gets three cautions is gassed so bad his brain isn't working well enough to fire the muscles in sync with the whistle. With 10 seconds left in overtime he was pleading for the ref for a stalling call rather than trying to get hand control and escape, watching seconds 5-3 tick off as Ramos lifted him and dropped him to the mat, and making another plea to the ref to call locked hands when Ramos kept his hands locked for one second after bringing Jordan to the mat. Not a great match for him. Below his average performance.
The timekeepers got it right. I wonder if the ref should have called locked hands with a couple seconds left in overtime. It looked like they were locked for a full second once Jordan hit the mat and squirmed to make space.
So, I think you reward Rambos for wrestling above his average rather than reward Olivier for wrestling below his. Then Footrub, because he's tough. Then Stiebird then maybe Carter. Dardonjes hasn't wrestled enough this year to merit a spot above these guys.
Now I'm going to cut down to 133, break out of jail, enroll at Ohio University, and break into the lineup so I can have a run at these guys.
