Okay, feel me people, I think there are two ways to beat the russian sprawl. One would be to just shoot a low single and avoid it all together. Or you could shoot like Brands just did, grab a knee and get your shoulder driving. If you are driving just above the hips, they can't drop like they do. All they are really doing is droping their center of gravity to stop the shot, then they grab something to keep our guys from extending and driving. Sure it isn't as effective a shot against our sprawl, but they don't sprawl like us. Does anyone think it would work? I haven't wrestled any Russians, I just watch our guys wrestle them. . . . Maybe what I'm saying is worthless, but I can see why Brands had better success against the world than some of the others. He finishes quicker for one, plus his pressure keeps his opponents from waiting and counter wrestling. It at least makes it harder for them to concentrate. . . . . |

I wonder if Terry Brands also gives clinics on poor sportsmanship. This guy does it better than anybody except maybe for his brother Tom. All the times he has lost (Kelber, Cross, Chertow, etc...) and stormed off the mat crying without ever shaking his opponent's hand. This is the kind of technical stuff that we all need to see too instead of single and double legs which we have all seen a million times. NOW WHO IS WITH ME!!! |

I spent a weekend at a Camp with Terry Brands last summer, AMAZING, we spent four sessions on the technique of positioning, much like this video, a lot form bottom, coming out off bottom. . . the man is a technician, I think that aspect of him gets overshadowed by the intensity. But he knows his stuff no doubt. |
