I was lucky enough where I got to sit down with Michael Phelps coach and get his take on things. I found some good nuggets of information that can be used in wrestling.

Overall Bob Bowman has to be considered one of the greatest coaches in the world after he coached Michael Phelps to 8 Gold Medals in Beijing. Here he talks about how it is important to focused on fine technical points before competition as opposed to be thinking about the big picture. He says the reason why is that focusing on the big picture or the end result will raise your arousal level too much where it will inhibit your ability to perform fine motor skills.

"Everybody has talent and everybody works hard." I love that. I hate when a coach tries to create a false confidence by telling his athletes that they are working harder than everybody else. "Focus on the process of success." Great stuff.

I am imagining that Coach Bowman is one of the more humble coaches in world of any sport. With all his years of experience behind him, he is able to say he is just now learning something.Flo.

what a brillant mind. He would be a great sports psychologist and thanks for posting this Martin really helped. That is what flo is all about bringing videos to the people to help them learn about the sport.

First, this is brilliant. He's obviously thought of each phase of training and competing and it's a nice insight on coaching. So often we focus all our attention on training with wrestling, especially when you think of Dan Gable's great quotes and work ethic, that this is great seeing how someone prepares for competition day. Second, it's nice to see him pull from a variety of inspirations for coaching techniques. Good stuff.

Seems like a cool dude.

Excellent coaching approach. Too bad most wrestling coaches act like overexcited teenagers getting ready for prom.
