Jake Herbert talks to Flowrestling for the first time since the world team trials and his finals matches against Cael Sanderson. He said he may have given the great Cael Sanderson a little too much respect in the first match and felt better in the second. Jake Herbert also is glad that he got to wrestle Cael Sanderson before the 2012 Olympic Trials because he has a better understanding of him as a wrestler. Jake Herbert will most likely be moving up to Michigan to follow Sean Bormet and train up there with guys like Andrew Howe and Mike Poeta to prepare himself for the 2012 trials which are just 10 months away. And make let's it be known that wearing Cael's shoes only motivates him when he is training.

Super job to the Olympic coaching staff too. What a turn difference from just four years ago. That turn around takes leadership. I think the US Team was the most improved of any country in the world. |

I know I'm writing this a year after the fact, but hats off to Jake Herbert. I don't care if you think Cael dominated him or not. I respect our USA boys that are training for multiple world teams and multiple Olympic golds. Hats off to Burroughs. He will be one of USA's all-time greats and makes his country proud. Hats of to Varner. He's got more gold in him yet. I wish Henry C would do the same. He's got a lot of great wrestling left that 20-something frame. Bruce B., John Smith, Kenny Monday, were studs for years. Hats off to those behind the Living the Dream medal fund to make it possible for these guys to be motivated monitarily for their efforts and commitment. |

It's amazing to hear that the same people who were praising Jake and his accomplishments over the past few years are now the same whom are cutting him down now! Wow, I say good luck to both men and what a boost for USA wrestling that Sanderson is back in the picture. It is this kind of depth and talent every weight class needs to improve our position at the world level..and isn't that what it's all about anyway?! What does in fact make Russia go great??? Depth... their second string, third string and even fourth string guy can all place at the World championships as we has seen. To have two world silver medalists (regardless of year they acquired it) in the same weight class is a major improvement than what we have seen throughout the years. I just feel like we are sooooo quick to build up and even quicker to brake down our hero's |

So training with two guys that have never made a world team will help you beat the best on the planet. I'm missing the logic or something. |

Skill is what kills
Please , please Jake avoid over training... winning is not about large volumes of hard work. You must invest the majority of your training time into the skill/drill and discover what is the least amount of time required to condition the body to wrestle full go for three, two minute periods. All the time spent doing hard work beyond what is required is a waste of time and effort ...this time and effort could be applied towards skill/drill. When it comes to hard work more is not better. Doing thousands of pushups and pullups will not give you the skill you need to defeat Cael. All you need in the pushup and pullup department ... two sets of 12 reps with 100 plus lbs done with perfect form for each exercise. Drop the high volume hard work program. All the Best in your Quest. |

My Herbert thoughts
I like Herbert. It is good to see that he is goal driven and has an idea of where he wants to be a couple of years from now. Personally, I don't this weight is his anymore. I no longer look at him in a higher light like I used to, and compared to his old days have been relatively disappointed with his wrestling as of late. While there is no doubt in my mind this man is talented, I believe he has hit his peak and is only regressing. |

Is Silent H still wrestling? Sounds like he's focusing on coaching. |
