regarding dckundr's comment that Cuban wrestlers often outperform American wrestlers despite economic disadvantage, Cuban wrestlers probably recieve free living expenses so wrestling can be their full time job. Whereas US wreslters must find some other means of income to scrape by. Also, Cuban wrestlers probably start freestyle wrestling at a young age, whereas US wreslters usually don't switch to freestyle until after college, putting the US wrestlers at a disadvantage. |

Winning is not always linear. am i a worse wrestler since last year hell no i am 3 times the wrestler i was last year.. the world champ this year the Bulgarian check out how he did in his last 4 tournaments.. he did not win one of them. in fact i place ahead of him and so did Raymond Jordan. sometime its style match ups look at 66 you have Olympic gold vs Olympic silver then winner gets 09 world champ then the 09 world champ looses and none of them place.. usa wrestling is doing all the right thing things didnt go right for us that day.. you can bet with this result we are only going to work harder. and i will get my world and Olympic championship before its all said and done.. best to you all |

YOU TALK ABOUT A SOLID GAME PLAN THIS GUY HAD IT AGAINST HERBERT. Anytime Jake shot in on his single leg before he could get the leg up Salas went the same direction. I think this is scouting at its best. I think this may be a very effective counter to the single leg as well. Maybe Jake needs to set it up better and not have it to where Salas will be able to move if he is shot on....just a thought because I don't think I have seen this nasty of counter wrestling... |

Terry Brands? Same guy who coached Henry Cejudo? Terry Brands the guy who was overlooked to give Zeke Jones the job? Zeke Jones is new to the role, but this poor result should put the pressure on him. If he is being that influenced by Iowa Universtity wrestling, then we have the wrong coach. |

The international wrestlers really figured out the Americans. I know they watch video just like we do. Seemed like every foreign wrestler was totally ready for us. They weren't at all intimidated by our conditioning and aggression. They just kept cool-headed and proceeded to woop us. We actually looked stupid trying to be all tough and aggressive, as if we were in an Iowa folkstyle match. |

Jake's gotten whipped before (e.g. Freshman year in NCAA's trying to go upper body with an international guy, and sopre year against Askren). He comes back better. Guys at worlds have adapted to his aggressiveness and if he wrestled every guy at Worlds, he's probably the fifth or sixth best guy. So yeah, he's got to re-adjust, and yeah this is his toughest test ( Perez is faster and stronger) but Jake's a fast learner and he'll be back on the podium. |

I just got back from vacation and watched the world champ videos. All I can say is, "wow, we suck!" Wasn't this Herbert dude supposed to be one of our best? He got completely out-classed here. Not even close. We need to start placing more emphasis on freestyle in the states. The status quo is freakin' awful. |

The Iowa style is outdated on the international stage. The rules have changed more and more to the detriment of Americans. The periods have become shorter and there are now breaks in between. Patience, technique, and opportunism haven't been emphasized enough in recent years, partly because the idea of hard work and physical superiority are more valued in America. It's a value shift. Hard, smart work will outshine a straight grind in freestyle and greco. |

Why do so many people think the "Stalling" rule in folkstyle makes matches more interesting? The freestyle world finals are usually more interesting than folkstyle NCAA championships. We really need to abandon the stalling call. And I agree with Bill, the bottom position in folkstyle is boring. |

The US wrestlers all sort of looked the same: they darted all around the mat and aggressively attacked as if they were in a folkstyle match in Iowa. Ridiculous. Very predictable. Every country had us figured out. This Cuban beat Herbert earlier this year, and this time he made it look even easier. |
