gonna correct myself, Paulson loses in the next round and freestyle focuses on more explosive takedowns and quickness, as you dont have much time to score tilts or turns. also with proper defense and better wrestling Poeta could have beaten Paulson. however if Paulson were to wrestle someone like Denis Tsarguish (the 2009 champ in this weight) he would lose.

it isnt cheap if your opponent can do it too and folkstyle isn't necessarily better it just has a different set of rules that focus on different. plus Paulson still lost and its not like thats gonna work at the world level. In the 2009 worlds Paulson got rocked in the first round by one of the eventual bronze medalists so he's clearly not gonna win crap at the worlds.

I have no problem with people who don't like the leg clinch (I don't either) or the freestyle rules, but calling body locks or other exposure techniques "cheap" is kind of silly. A scoring move in scoring move, it's not like Poeta doesnt' know the rules.

thats what cheap 3 years ago

about freestyle go to your back or cheap body lock tilt to the side and your the winner of that position bullogney. not very honest win. folkstyle lets the truth be known.

There's no shot there. Poeta has the leg lock in the clinch and still gets scored on. In a regular situaton that might be scored 2-2 or 3-2 Paulson, but in a clinch situation only one guy can score, and Paulson initated the moves. The refs go this one correct

I hate today's freestyle wrestling for the way paulson wrestles. Do nothing for 2 periods. Never attempt a shot. Get a cheap push out. And then roll on your back to get 2 points on a counter. It used to be that you could "expose" your back on a crotch lift or tilt but you could not just roll right on it. By allowing that we are penalizing the guy who takes all the shots and your shot has to be perfect. You saw how hesitant Poeta was to shoot. Because the last time they wrestled in that big 10-big 12 event Paulson did that same "throw/roll" on Poeta a couple times and scored 2 points each time. CRAZY!! Should be scored 2 and 2 when you roll right across your back in desperation because your opponent has a great, very deep shot.
