Dan Gable gives us a tour around his Rocky Gym which doubles as a garage/shed behind his house. We get a real treat when Dan Gable takes us up and shows us the mat that he used to train on when he was still competing as well as the weight set he had in high school.

Ha, to AC: Unfortunately I'm only slightly less old than you, but appreciate being put in the 'younger people' category. I don't have any old Lehigh matches on video, but I do have the radio broadcast of their 1947 (or was it '46?)match with Cornell College of IA, when they were ranked & 1 and were shellacked by previous by about 40 - 0. One of Cornell's team members was my coach. |

Younger people don't seem to realize that even video tape did not come into general use (that is, outside of commercial TV) until the 1970s. And recording something like an entire 6-8 minute match on film was a huge deal. That's why you see small clips here and there. Recording a college match in the 1960s was extremely rare, let alone HS. I would love to see some of the old Lehigh matches they used to broadcast in black and white with Thad Turner, Mike Frick and the Leibermans. Anybody else remember them? |

It's nice to see his weight set, but does anybody on Earth have any vids of his hs or college wrestling matches? Besides the Owings match? I've never seen anyone so analyzed in a sport, for whom virtually no records exist of his life before he was 24 yrs old... he's like B.Obama or something; no past :) |
