I love all the Hawkeyes haters.. cry my a muth#*g river .. who else puts 15000 people in the stands..at every dual) whoelse wrestling program helps subtain Other sports programs... the iowa stlye has been copyed reformed at many other program by non gable trained coaches and is nothing close to the real thing... these young men attend iowa with Olympic dreams.. not all but most..and most important a degree... mentally strong enough to move mountains... if your the type to settle First place loser..it ok... that attitude not what this great country was build on... mayb just mayb your in the wrong sport... go iowa.. go usa.. go div 1 2 3..etc. |

I think people confuse being serious and intense with being arrogant when it comes to Brent metcalf. If you saw the video of his press conference after losing to Frayer you saw a different Metcalf...somber, disappointed, and completely honest about his performance and his flaws. We only see the game face....but often these athletes are more complex than we realize. |

I could just picture it now if that horrific scene actually come to fruition. Caldwell would be convulsing on the mat and Metcalf would look over for not even half a second and run off the mat as Brands pats him on the back because he carried out his Iowa philosophy. What is this the Karate Kid and Iowa is Cobra Kai and if you can't beat him Sensei Brands will call for the foot sweep. What a joke!! Both of you would get your butts handed to you by a quarter of the meatheads lifting at the gym. You aren't tough, you're just a fish in a small pond. I can't wait for when you do that to some guy at the international level and he just smashes your face with his fist. |

I understand wrestling is an intense sport. I wrestled my whole life and had division one offers until I blew out my whole knee and had to get reconstructive surgery. There were times were I was so emotional from accomplishing my goals I couldn't help but shout at the top of my lungs or cry. But theres a difference between being an athlete and begin a sbag. If Caldwell landed on his neck and was crippled, would it be fair to just say "Oh wrestling is intense and he just lost everything he worked so hard for so its understandable that he just paralyzed a kid". No! Metcalf is a great wrestler but he he is arrogant and that will always take precedence over his actual wrestling ability. And its bs when he wrestled the guy in the PAN AM finals that he was wresting until the whistle. Metcalf is a sbag and knew he lost so to get even he slammed him. He is just trying to get a reaction out of the athlete because he knew he got the best of him. Its not being an athlete that dedicated his whole life for something, its a kid whose a sbag. BTW I love when Brands crawled off the mat like his papi just spanked him after he lost in the Olympic Trials. Real sportsmanlike. More Like PUNK!!! |

Awesome video...anyone who wrestles in the trials deserves more respect than anything in a comment box. They've given up countless opportunities for money, career advancements etc. in order to train and compete in the greatest sport on earth with very little recognition. |

Man you computer wrestlers love hating on Iowa... People really upset about Metcalf being intense about the sport of wrestling? this isnt swimming people i dont see any football blogs crying over how intense Ray Lewis is about his sport? im sure most of you havnt wore a singlet on here so newsflsh wrestling is a tough/greedy/intense sport if you cant hang go play tennis. Brands knows what it takes to be an elite wrestler and he trains his athletes to be the best. get over it i dont think a bunch of computer wrestlers on here is going to change that anytime soon. On another note if you wernt so busy crying about iowa you might be able to see what they have been doing for the sport in recent years... bringing in 54000 people for the olympic trials? setting new ncaa attendence records year after year. Brands and Sanderson have done nothing but bring this sport great attention and plablicity over the last couple years. quiet crying about things on here that are making this sport better... feel like im on a justin beiber blog with all you crybabies who obviously dont know much if anything about this sport. |

Please stop bashing Metcalf... I am not an Iowa/Metcalf fan, I wrestled for AU, but he is one of the fiercest competitors we have ever had in the US. He has completely broken MANY All-Americans... He even beat Burroughs. He was a classy and true ambassador of our sport at the Trials, and if we all know Metcalf, he is going to put in an indescribable amount of thankless work in the next 4 years to accomplish his dream. |

What is USA Wrestling doing to engage powerhouse brands like Nike, ADIDAS, ASCIS, VISA and the like to promote their products using our sport? In my ever-so-humble opinon, wrestling (regardless of style) shows so much better in commercials than ANY other sport. What's more exciting seeing a finish in a 100 meter dash or a reverse body lock thrown for 3 points? Listen up Madison Avenue, you can tap into raw emotion better with wrestling than with golf. I'm late for my 10am tee time. |

Wrestling is a sport of intensity, its a fight, pure and simple. Its agression, its about winning. You all attack Metcalf, and others for their intensity, then dissapointment when losing. Try putting everything you have into a sport for over 14 years, try pushing yourself every single day, constantly 24/7 thinking about a sport and working towards being the best, then falling short. Then losing. Its about primal instincts and feelings. As far as im concerned Brands takes the best look at the sport, you only deserve what you earn. Only get praise for what you earn and success. Im sure Marion is around somewhere crying because Brands didnt gush over how amazing he was or shouldve been. Yes your allowed to get upset when you lose, deal with it. Yes, your allowed to never give anyone any bit praise, deal with it. Wrestling is purely about beatin the opponent in front of you, its about winning. Not about enjoying the sport, cracking a smile or whatever you wanna call it. Thats what makes wrestling different then other sports. You get zero satisfaction from losing, none. So no, dont crack a smile, earn pride and thats it. |

Interesting Point....that's fine....so take Daniel Dennis for instance. Dude busted up when he lost to Ness. These Iowa guys aren't robots are you insinuate. Further, if Cael is soo amazingly perfect what say you about Andrew Long? Iowa's got McDonough and Ramos that can win NCAA titles. They're right in the mix. |

Theres a difference between being tough and acting like you actually care about a kid you recruited and worked with for a few years and hopefully developed a relationship with. If tough is working out so good why has Iowa been the most dominant team in the college circuit and only had one National Champion in the last NCAA tournament. Push your kids all you want make them fear you, but in the end of the day they're still people and should be treated with such respect. No like some weird Iowa robot. I have no respect for how those kids come out like weird brainwashed droids. |
