US did. It was the first time we ever beat them in wrestling and all that.

Lewis was great, I'm suprised he was "only" a 1x world/olympic medalist. What happened in other years, did he lose at the US trials?

Oh and Lewis' scrambing is unreal in this match.

THAT WAS AWESOME! WOW, I LITERALLY JUMPED OUT OF MY SEAT WHEN THE REF SLAMMED THE MAT AND RANDY LEAPED HIGH INTO THE AIR IN CELEBRATION, AWESOME! Randy just locked it up and went for it, that is so gutsy and so typical of his style, all out! This week I am choosing the 62 kg bout from the 1980 USA/USSR Dual in Rapid City, SD between Randy Lewis and Viktor Alexeev.

Randy Lewis was definitely one of the most exciting wrestlers of his generation. He wasn't afraid to scrap and takes risks to put big points on the board. He was a great thrower, with even better defense, and a killer gutwrench.

Alexeev was another Soviet from his generation who, like Beloglazov, kept constant pressure on his opponent using a lot of push/pull, snaps, underhooks, and fakes. He was also another wrestler that thought 2-3 moves ahead and was equally effective as Beloglazov at working one side of his opponent to open up an attack to the other side.

Though this match was brief as Lewis scored a fall on big throw in front of his home crowd, what I like most about this match is that Lewis (who was great at adapting to his opponents) fights so hard to not give up points. Alexeev looked like he was about to score 4-5 times and came up short just about every time. in fact Lewis' defense in this bout reminds a lot of Mavlet Batirov, albeit a different generation and different rules.
