I am a huge OSU fan who always wants Michigan to lose. Sportsmanship which includes honesty & integrity are vital to this sport. Wrestling is truly one of the last “pure” sports – no politics (you win in the practice room, you wrestle for the team). To accept that match as an OSU win by the wrestler, coach, or fan is shameful. I was disgusted (I wanted Heflin to win). Total lack of integrity by OSU! What other life lessons are you teaching these wrestlers?

If Ryan had intervened in a way that was not in support of his team, you can be guaranteed that his AD would have pulled out some whooopass on him the next day. The head coach's job is to advocate for his athlete, period. It is not his job to bring some "moral truth" to a bad ref call, mid match....unless, of course, it is a bad call against his athlete. Job description. However, that was the worst call I have ever seen, involving BOTH ref and mat judge. Mat judges NEVER go against the ref, so why do we have them. I have never seen them disagree with the ref. Idiocy.

Are all of you naysayers to video serious about saying it will slow the macth down and allow the guys time to rest?? Serioulsy?? Go watch the video of the debacle and time how long the coaches stood at the table arguing with the ref. All the while the two wrestlers were hangin out. Contentious calls in our sport never fail to create this sort of delay. Its typically a waste of time bc the prima donna refs aren't interested in being correct but are more interested in not being proved wrong. Video review would have cleared everything up quickly and w/o all of the arguing.. If this sport is ever going to move more to the mainstream it has to be forward thinking and adapt to the mainstream.

a second official is the dumbest thing in wrestling....the second official is just for show he doesnt want to over ride or step on the guy officiating...he wont make a call if hes wrong...its dumb and is the most pointless thing in wrestling....you see it at every level from middle school high school and college...grow some balls and tell the guy hes wrong.

arguing with the official about a call only applies if you are the coach on the wrong side of a bad call. the coach on the good side definitely doesn't have a responsibility to correct the call. it has nothing to do with integrity or honesty, the official is the extension of the rulebook on the mat, what they say is law, even when they are wrong. sometimes you get luck and sometimes you get screwed.

just my opinion. it was a pretty bad call but there is nothing that can be done about it, it is the referee's job to call the match, no one else. as far as video review, i don't think it is a good idea, wrestling has never had it before and there is no reason to add it, it will slow down matches and create more problems than it will solve. for every bad call that is made and can be said to require a review there are thousands of good calls that will be deemed "questionable" and waste time and energy for all parties involved.

i say no video review for wrestling. the nature of the sport i think is just against the whole idea of replay reviews. every sport has its share of bad calls and i dont see enough of these clearly incorrect calls in match-altering situations to warrant a change. plus, how would we determine when to review? do coaches have challenges? this would also greatly take away from the conditioning factor. we already know that guys use injury time when they're tired, now we're going to have review breaks? i dont see it happening

Listen to Jake Huffman, he knows whats up, maybe one year in Cali to mix it up...

Why do you keep moving flonationals further East? Do you not want any West Coast guys there?

Joe, Martin, ....you guys are very wrong about Tom Ryan. As coaches we must teach these young adults life lessons. One of the most important being honesty and integrity. WIthout those, what do we have.

Tom Ryan obviously knew that there was either a reversal or an escape takedown. He blatently lied and cheated by not mentioning that his athlete was on bottom for 10 seconds. This was a shame. tOSU should be cited for unsportsmanlike behavior.
Lastly.....PSU - NE announcers were hilarious. One of the worst display of sports announcing ever. Actually, it is def. the worst.

keep in mind, there's already a video review process @ NCAAs (via protest AFTER the end of the match). however, i think it wouldn't be THAT difficult to give the officials discretion to do a video review DURING a match ( in extreme cases) at NCAAs and conference qualifiers where officiating mistakes can have disastrous unintended consequences.

Did Martin say, "Explanation Point?"

no video review please. there are enough ways to stall already and review won't help bad refereeing. We need better training for referees at all levels of wrestling. I coach AA in PA some of the referees we get are amazingly bad.

did he say "slamocious"?

Anonymous Coward 1 year ago

Definitely we need video review. A 10 second review would have set things straight. We have the technology and should use it.

No, definitely Rocky part 1

I thought it was more like the 6th Rocky movie with Mason "the Line" Dixon.
