ok, on the topic of how many kids per group and length of matches I say that a kid finishes a period if pinned but not subsequent periods. Also, if 6 kids per group is too many the 5 kids will be fine. also we could do 6 kides per group and then just have them wrestle 3 hours. they may not get all 5 matches, but I bet they would get 4 each for sure with 6 mats. breaking it into 10 sections will be too much and require too many volunteers. 6 sections from 2 mats works very well.

Sounds good. I'm submitting my paperwork to Wake County School District next week. Once I get the approval with total costs I'll decide if we're going to have it at Apex HS or move it to Southern Durham. I think the cost may come to right around $1000 for Apex HS. Or we could have it at Edwardsville High School in Illinois.

if you have it at Edwardsville, I'm sitting in the overflow auditorium watching it on the big screen... Gordon

the total # of volunteers is a lot but we did it last year so we can do it again. let's just all make sure we continue to support one another at the twu events b/c some clubs might struggle a bit w/ either getting a facility or the appropriate number of volunteers from their own club parents or whatever the case might be (ie. extra mats, clocks, etc)....

Absolutely. If you are a club that is hosting an event, you must get the ref's worked out before hand. the volunteers on the side lines can be done day of, but the earlier the better. That does not mean you have to provide all this stuff out of your club. We will all work as a team, but you are resposible for asking for help where it is needed and getting that help before hand. No coach has a problem giving a helping hand, we just want the person running the show to run the show so it goes smoothly.

Just to confirm, Troy, are you also suggesting that we go with the 10 section format rather than the 6 sections. Just to reiterate my suggestion:

We could have the little guys, which we seem to have much more of, wrestle in six 15X13 sections (picture 2 wide, 3 deep) and that would leave four 25X20 sections for the bigger kids. We can instruct the refs to allow the wrestlers to wrestle on/right over the line so long as the other wrestlers are not in the immediate area and it is safe.

I agree with Bill about letting a kid who gets pinned finish the period, but not the whole match. That would also help get the event over faster and it won't confuse the kids as to why someone keeps wrestling when they get pinned.

I think if we put all these suggestions into place, we could get them out of there in 2-3 hours. Let's face it, the kids usually have too much time between matches and lose interest. They don't need as much recovery time as us old guys.

10 refs is a lot of refs. I would like to officially cast a VOTE for 6 sections. Robert you are at 10 correct? everyone else please cast your vote.

On the call for votes. I vote for Robert's proposal. My view is we should really work hard to keep these events less than 3 hours, provided the kids are safe. I think Robert's does that.

6 sections. As I recall the last TWU event from last season held at UNC, I do recall us getting out in 3 hrs or less. Kids got plenty of matches and we had 6 sections. It worked in the round robin format. I'm a firm believer if it works don't fix it.

I also think 6 is the right size when taking into account venue sizes, number of refs, space per mat, and the fact that we will be making more of an effort to limit these events to the novice wrestlers and be better organized on the front end so we will begin wrestling very shortly after arrival instead of spending the first hour bracketing

Stan is not here yet, but we just spoke and he voted for 6.

Keep in mind as well guys that we will be able to do an event and make a judgment call for the next event if it needs tweeking.

Robert, call me when you can about your event because we may have something there that you might like as well.
