Easton vs. Phillipsburg

Easton vs. Phillipsburg

Event Info
These arch rivals separated by the Delaware River clash in the latest installment of their wrestling rivalry. The two schools have locked horns every year since 1948, when Phillipsburg added wrestling, one year after Easton. Since the two schools began wrestling, Easton has the most state champions in Pennsylvania with 35 and Phillipsburg is second in New Jersey with 33. Phillipsburg, the defending Group 4 State Duals Champion, is currently ranked 6th in New Jersey, while Easton is ranked 3rd in Pennsylvania. However, this is a throw the records out the window event. Easton-P'Burg is one of the special rivalries in high school sports. Their 1988 football game was the first ever nationally televised high school game (ESPN2) and ESPN came back for the 100th anniversary in 2006. Kids on both sides of the river are raised that the most important thing you can do is beat Easton or P'burg, whether it's wrestling, football, darts, or tiddly winks (in fact, the two teams are having a contest to see which school can get more twitter followers before the match @PBurgHSWrestlin and @EastonWrestling).Naturally, the venue for tonight's match is second to none. The Pit in Phillipsburg is famous to any New Jersey wrestling fan. The gym is the size of the average living room, with the seats coming right up to the edge of the mat and the fire marshal instructed to look the other way while they cram the building way past capacity. The match has been sold out for over a week, and expects to be an electric atmosphere.
