Both were 2x NCAA Champs, and both had fantastic technique, but stylistically, Brent Metcalf and Matt Valenti were polar opposites.

Metcalf was a hammer who would spend the majority of a match pulling on his opponent's head to set up either his leg attacks or his front headlock, which would often come as a result of his opponent succumbing to his non-stop forward pressure.  And he would put points on the board -lots of points.  Metcalf was a relentless wrestler, and he never stopped looking for opportunities to score.

Valenti, on the other hand, was a bit more tactical of a wrestler.  He was the type of wrestler who had no problem winning a close match.  This isn't to say that Valenti couldn't put points on the board either.  He could score on everybody.  It was his incredible positioning and solid defense (and perhaps technical intelligence), however, that often baffled opponents.

Despite their dramatic opposition in match strategy, both Brent Metcalf and Matt Valenti had one thing in common when it came to technique: they both emphasized being stingy in scoring positions. Neither was ever willing to give up easy points, and neither was willing to make technical mistakes.
