The only olympic champs I'd consider lanky are Asragov- and arguably Yonemistu, though he's mostly just big (thick and tall). Arguably the best guys from the "new rules era"- Batirov, Kudukov, Gatsalov and Burroughs- are stocky. Yazdani- one of the most spectacular wrestlers in the world when he's "on"- is comically short and thick. Wrestling is great because many body types lead to success.

Yeah, Varner wrestled pretty defensively last week too, and you know what they call him now? Olympic champ.

Don't hate because one guy wrestles freestyle like an international and makes his opponent pay for failing to finish his shots. The international styles are a chess match - show up with both guns blazing and without a strategy at your own peril. For example, Burroughs is big, strong and fast, but he also avoids situations where he is at a disadvantage.
Big ups to BSU, Chamberlain and the entire 2012 Univ. World Team.

It seemed like Jason didn't do very much except wrestle defensively. He is good at wrestling defensively but he is not very exciting to watch. Congrats. I'd like to see how the match would go if they wrestled folkstyle.

Obviously you can tell who Flo wanted to win.... not the winner.

you cant ask molinaro to cut to 132 that is outrageous. He wrestled 135 his senior year of HIGH SCHOOL. i know this isnt the same thing, but burroughs is like 2 inches taller than him and 8 kilos heavier so basically the same thing. do you think hes better suited at 66? give molinaro some time because he hasnt wrestled alot of freestyle before this. look out for him at the next olympic trials at 66 kg. cutting to 132 after cutting to 149 for two years in a row would be ridiculous to ask

Molinaro ought to thin out and drop to 60kg. I know that sounds a bit crazy, but nowadays most of the great freestyle wrestlers are, relative to their weight, lankier types (think Saitiev, Asgarov, and in grecco, Karelin). Strong -- yes -- but leaner for the weight than Molinaro. I really noticed this at the last Olympics: the short, buff, stocky guys rarely made it past the first round. Of course you can always find an exception, but seriously, go look at the Olympic champs (and also watch Russian Nationals) from the past 10 years...85% are lanky...those thinner body types. My 2 cents
