After many close attempts at making a world or olympic team and falling just short, Jared Frayer took out Brent Metcalf to make the 2012 Wrestling Olympic Team. The series with Brent Metcalf was particularly dramatic as Metcalf beat Frayer in the 2010 Trials to make the team in a tough decision. Jared Frayer, 2012 wresling Olympic Trials champion.

Dear Mr Frayer I am an avid wrestling fan and i had the pleasure of seeing you hit that throw in Time Square, as well i have a good friend who has a daughter with Down Syndrome , she is such a beautiful child and brings out so much from everyone she encounters. At this time i want to wish you and your family all the best through your Olympic journey, you are a great representative for the U.S. |

66 K to bad for USA...

I love Frayer and Metcalf. But unfortunately, it doesnât matter who we send because we donât stand a chance. 66K is ridiculous! Olympic champ (TUR), two world champs IRI and IND, and 2008 Olympic Silver medalist (UKR) that has beaten all of them during the last cycle. I hope that a miracle happens and Frayer medals but after watching World Champ Shushil Kumar at Schultz this year I would say that hope is wishful thinking. |

Class Act. I see the flag in him. Seeing Jamil Kelly in his corner was awesome. |

5-2 against Metcalf? You're talking about a guy who was in college until a couple of years ago versus someone who's been out of college a lot longer. It took Cael Sanderson longer than that after college to ever win a freestyle tournament. Recent activity counts for more. |

The qualifier was March 22-25, and here's what Brent did: |

I have mixed feelings. Metcalf qualified the weightclass. That should count for something in the equation of who goes to London. That may have cost him the olympic berth as the qualifyer was pretty recent and perhaps Frayer was more fresh and rested for the trials. Metcalf looked bad at the trials....like someone who was overtrained. I hate to say this but Frayer is unlikely to medal in London. The only USA guys who have a chance are those that dominate here (Burroughs, Varner, Dlagnev). |

Frayer is now 5-2 against Metcalf and Frayer's style is better suited for international competition, his front head/chest locks are the best in the business and he can turn anyone with them, he is highly motivated and will be in great shape, Iowa fans need to get over Metcalf losing, they are not going to "pick" him over Frayer, Jared earned it and he is going to London. Let's get behind all of our guys and bring some medals home. |

Frayer is the man!

I agree with arm-spin...Metcalf hasn't been so consistent in freestyle. He has a couple wins over good guys, but not when it counts. I do think Frayer has a better shot because he is wrestling pure freestyle. Metcalf looks like he's still stuck in folkstyle, trying to force that to work. Well, occasionally you might get a win with that approach, but it won't pull you through to medal at a World or Olympic championship. |

Metcalf has beaten some good guys, but not consistently. Frayer has just as good a shot at an Olympic medal. |

Metcalf didn't wrestle worlds last year, teyon did lost to stadnik in the first round, burroughs won ukraine memorial beating the 2011 european silver medalist and beat geduev(russian number 2/3) at the dual in times square, so burroughs proved he could win internationally. I say wait until after the world cup to decide as frayer will most likely have to wrestle one of the best russians, taghavi(world champ), lopez again(world bronze medalist), hasanov, stadnik etc. if he gets handled send metcalf. |
