Jordan joined us one week before the Olympic Team Trials via online video chat for a talk about the upcoming competition. He is excited to get out there and wrestle and he has been training hard in preparation for the event. One year ago Jordan Burroughs was the man in college wrestling, winning an NCAA title and claiming the Hodge Trophy. This year David Taylor stepped into that role and we asked Jordan about a potential match up with David Taylor. He respects Taylor but says this is his year to go out and win an Olympic gold, he is training for the best wrestlers in the world, not in the country. Sitting out until the finals has good and bad elements to it. You will be fresh for the finals and are obviously guaranteed a spot in the championship series, but Jordan says his first match is typically not his best. He will be sure to get a good warm up in earlier in the day in preparation for his championship finals series.

"Ed Ruth will win trials, his mat skills are scary!!!!"

Mat Skills aren't always a factor in freestyle. It is predominantly neutral

The preliminary plan at PS is for Taylor to stay where he is, Brown to move in at 74, Ruth to move up to 84, Wright to go to 97, and McIntosh to redshirt.

Somehow JB comes off extremely confident, yet gracious and likeable at the same time. How could anyone not root for this guy. He's the pride of USA wrestling.

Burroughs is a class act.

taylor & Dake good guys put to go on the mat with Mr Burroughs no way come back in two years.

I doubt Taylor or Dake make much of an impact. 74 has some pretty proven guys

Burroughs scored 30 points against the best in the world nearly a year ago at the WC's. he won't be touched at trials.

the real question is can he beat me in another rope climb challenge...my guess is no. Your going dowwwwwwwwwn Burroughs

Anonymous Coward 1 year ago

yeah i agree. Brown could be the 2nd best 165 pounder next year. Unfortunately, the best is on the same team...

Brown is tough as nails 1 year ago

I was sold when he moved up to 197 and knocked some quality guys off. Somehow they need to get him in the lineup but without Quentin bumping up don't see where it can happen.

David Taylor can take anyone down and turn them watch for him to master the neutral position and win trials.. Ed Ruth will win trials, his mat skills are scary!!!!

How good is brown from penn state? If he's makin 163 someone needs to move around so he can get in that line up

love how everyone has been assuming dake or taylor are gona make the finals. has anyone looked at the field of guys who have already proved themselves in freestyle. dake and taylor are underdogs to make finals IMO.

Taylor won't make the finals. Dake will take him out before then.

when DT wins a world title then we can call him The Man. JB will put the smackdown on DT if, and i do mean IF, DT can make the finals.

why cant everyone have the attitude of JB?

Olympic selection process 1 year ago

Even if someone does manage to beat Burroughs at the Olympic Trials, they aren't necessarily on the Olympic team! That person will still have to go to an international tournament this summer and place higher than Burroughs there. If not, JB is going to London, not the winner this weekend.

DT is the man.

JB is the man.

Everyone knows that DT is the most exciting entry to watch at 74kg. Why wouldn't Bader bring up Taylor's name? Dake is a better mat wrestler than he is on his feet, and DT is better on his feet than he is a mat wrestler. FS better suits DT than Dake. There's a lot of talent at 74kg. My prediction is Burroughs DOESN'T get it done.

Anonymous Coward 1 year ago

did you thank he was going to not show up because david taylor is coming i thought i seen taylor ankle pick tsargush no that would be a different level of competition, hes going to have a good college career i hope dt makes the finals to face jb and get smashed by jb so we can stop hearing this nonsense. i cant believe he asked jb about taylor that was ignorant

Burroughs is the man!!! He's gonna win it for sure. I am curious though, why all the talk about Taylor? Seems like Howe and Dake would more likely be competition in the freestyle format. Nothing against Taylor -- he's a great folkstyler -- but we haven't seen him in freestyle for while. Whereas Howe has a made a mark, and Dake knocked off some tough guys last year and came close to Howe. In any case, I can't see anybody getting past Burroughs...he's the grooviest wrestler in the world!
