LOL let's see. We've had 8 state HS champs in the past 4yrs, 2 who were undefeated over 2yrs and 1yr, 4 top 10 finishes at state, 3 in the top 7, 2 freestyle state champs this year along with 3 more state placers and finished in the top 4 in the Cadet division as a team, yeah we must be mediocre. |

Freestyle and Greco Roman Wrestling makes you thug on your feet. In each styles there are a lot of high amplitude throws that you can't to apply in folkstyle. Olympic wrestling is upper body oriented with a lot of clinch work. Russian freestyle wrestling is very similar to greco with foot sweep and leg attacks. Russians wrestlers have spent years working out how to transfer a lot of soviet traditional wrestling styles judo and sambo techniques to mix with Freestyle and Greco for a jacketless environment.. |

@fgw What are they all doing now though? I believe all of them are doing freestyle only. How many competed at University Nationals in Greco? Maybe Haze and Ness. |

I agree with Coach about everything he said. Not that I want my guys throwing all the time but its a balance thing a "feel it thing" if you will. You can watch a kid get launched in the first year. Second year he knows how to stop it. He senses it. He can flurry with free style moves that may not score in folk |

As a coach, I've basically bagged Greco. We mainly concentrate on folk and freestyle. I have a few kids who have wrestled Greco and only occasionally do it now. I think a lot of coaches are figuring out that Greco is best done, after HS and college. |

Hey Folk, do your research. Pat Smith did wrestle freestyle and was successful. This is from his website: He also had a successful freestyle wrestling career, which included taking second place to three-time Olympian Kenny Monday at the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Spokane, Wash. He won gold medals at two U.S. Olympic Festivals. Smith was second in the 1995 U.S. Nationals, and was a six-time All-American at the U.S. Nationals. He won a bronze medal at the 1997 World Cup. He also won USA Wrestling age-group national titles on the Espoir and Junior levels. |

greco makes you thug on your feet. freestyle makes you amazing with solid technique; helps promote perfect form, how to finish cleanly. and folkstyle is just the coolest thing ever. exposure to all is the best formula, but can only reap the benefits if you're disciplined in them, a little exposure won't help it'll just cause confusion. i think its tough to be good enough at all 3 styles unless you start young, but if you can you can have a great advantage in folkstyle.. |

If I was a Binghamton wrestler who was down in the dumps and worried over having P Pop leave as head coach, I would be feeling REALLY good right now. Dernlan will do great things with this team, and the Bingmamton program will continue to grow better under his leadership. Dernlan has a level headed, calm confidence, a depth of knowledge about how to actually coach that goes deeper than SO many guys who get coaching jobs based simply upon their mat credentials, and who can articulate/communicate with athletes. Congrats to Bing. for selecting him. |
