Dan Gable welcomes Flowrestling to his home and into his barn "Rocky Gym" where he does a little bit of working out. He is hitting a punching bag for his workout, but when Dan Gable boxes, he does it for wrestling. In fact, when Dan Gable does any kind of workout he generally tries to approach it from a wrestling point of view.
If that doesn't get you excited for this sport I just don't know what would.....some mad man in the freezing cold hitting the heavy bag....LOVE IT!!
I bet Dan Gable was a secret CIA project who was raised from birth and programmed to be a secret weapon against Russia who not only beat them in Wrestling, but also was probably a secret ops navy seal assasin that is still top secret to this day... also, I would love for Dan Gable to coach the Senior wrestling tour against the sr. russian wrestling team, much like the Sr. tour in Golf. In fact, if we ever go to war with Russia, lets just pit Dan Gable against their best Sr. wrestler and the winner takes over the losers country. We could also use Dan as a secret weapon in our military as a special ops trainer against the russians, in fact I would recommend we use Dan Gable to coach any sport or military operation against the Russians, and Russia would not have a chance.
@StielbergThere's no "Might have been" between Dan Gable and Great Wrestler. (Ask anyone from that era. You had to be there to understand how separated he was from everyone else in his sport.)But you are onto something. When Gable was working out prior to the olympics in '72, when the Soviet Bloc was dominant in the sport, one of the Russian wrestlers was watching Gable go through a workout or warmup. After a little while he walked over to another American wrestler and asked whether Gable had a mental problem!! He'd never seen anyone work as hard as Gable was.
Truly brings new meaning to the phrase "brimming with energy".Gable is about 63, I think. Its interesting to see him jumping around and punching, on two replaced knees, and in the middle he's not all that winded.I'm sure glad I never had to wrestle him. He was the hammer to many anvils.I had to love the keeping the arms in against the body. Shades of Wesley Wes. And they both were all americans!! :)
That's a great "folk art" bird house leaning against the fridge. The old green paint looks great, Mr. Gable.
he was talking about the fact that both Iowa Style and Jordan Burroughs style both gets out of their stance and forces offence. Not comparing the styles at all, but saying the fact that both styles are succesfull because they CREATE offence. This was a pretty great interview, everything he said was simply put but extremley correct. If you dont realize that and continue to bash Dan Gable for not knowing what he is talking about; then you dont know what wrestling is really about.
I want to ask Dan when he thinks a pro leage will come about, and if so, how would he like the format to be, can you mix the different styles up during the course of 3 periods, how long shoud the periods be???? How should the wrestlers be paid, from gate intake only and pay only the winners on the winning team????
Awesome! Notice how after 6 minutes and 59 seconds of relentless talking he finally gives you a sec to ask a question? He's still wired to go hard for three rounds of 3, 2, 2. 7 minutes of pressure! Someone should start a reality tv show on him. 7 minutes of Gable.
Pretty humorous that Saturday Night Rider took Mike Tamillow's question seriously. He's ironically giving an All-American and Big Ten champ a hard time for not knowing wrestling. Gable is just awesome. Hey Tamillow, go watch some lawn croquet if you can't handle it!!
U gotta love Gable...old-school legend with vision, relevance and flair for performance! By the way, I watched the Big Ten Network coverage of the Iowa OSU meet and Gable's real time wrestling analysis was superb...also must say that he has pretty much weaned himself from showing Iowa favoritism.During the Flo interview, Gable mentions that NBC should have been covering the dual meet as a prelude to the Olympic team trials at Carver-Hawkeye later this year. However, the sad fact is that even BTN preferred to show a women's basketball game rather than live coverage of this historic college wrestling meet and then, to make things worse, their 2-day tape delay was subsequently aired at the same time as the live BCS Championship football game!! (For Charter Cable subscribers in California at least.)
Old School is not just a catch phrase but a true way Gable trained and what believes in.
This guy just flat out rocks. True American hero. I say add him to the American history text books, all kids should know about this guy and what he stands for not just wrestlers.
