The guys at Flo take a little different approach to this week's episode of Flocenter, setting down and having a bit of a discussion format. Last weekend was the Southern Scuffle where many of the top wrestlers in the country were battling each other, with Penn State coming out on top.

There was also a ton of action on the high school front with The Clash taking place over the holiday break as well and top teams from all across the country wrestled dual meets to see who would come out as the best team in the nation.

Coming up this weekend will be the most highly anticipated dual meet of the college wrestling season. Top ranked Iowa will play host to #2 Oklahoma State as the two most storied programs in the history of college wrestling will collide inside Carver Hawkeye arena.

@ Sean Doyle: Rumors had Gulibon headed to Iowa, but PSU got him. As far as not having the #1 class this year: PSU saving scholarships for the loaded 2013 and 2014 classes. Check some of the names in just PA-NJ-MD: 2013 (Wiercioch, Black, Ashnault, Retherford, Diehl, Schram, Matthews, Morris, Solomon); 2014 (Marsteller, Snyder, Haines, Chishko, Nolf).

All kidding aside, what Flo has done for the sport in the past few years is actually amazing. And the quality and volume of coverage is unreal. And...I don't think anyone would disagree....Flo's coverage of a Dual or Tourney is SO much better than anything the Big Ten network, or ESPN offers viewers. The only commentator in this sport who comes close to saying things during matches that make any sense is Blatnik for ESPN, and that is only at the NCAA's. Us fans find it irritating to NOT have Flo allowed to cover some many of the Big Ten duals, because of the BT Network.

Too bad Martin is now too busy to cover some duals, or some tourneys, because he is so over the top with his commentating. BUT the quality of Joe and Bader's commentating is fantastic, and gets better all the time. And their invterviews are great, because the guys getting interviewed know they are being interviewed by guys who wrestled and who are there to get insight, not to try to trick or trip up the wrestlers and coaches getting interviewed.

I absolutely LOVE the fact that NJ has only one division/class. It's awesome for the kids who place in or win states because they know it means so much more then a kid who shares a title with 4 other kids. However, CA has a LOT more people. So like Bader said, kids are getting lost in the mix and overlooked by colleges. Estimate of the population for NJ in July, 2011: 8.8 Million people...for CA: 38.6 Million. Maybe CA should go to 4 classes.

As an honest opinion, please take my comment with consideration.

You guys are letting the wrestling community get to you... Right around 10 minutes, you go into complaining and that goes on for quite some time. All these people in California are complaining "It's not fair, it's not fair!!" Which it seems is the theme in wrestling. But the coaches who are above it are the ones producing results. Misery loves company. Get out of it! Don't take the side of complainers to try to get them on yours. Split the wrestling community in two directions, between the ones who want to do things right and be happy with the results, and the ones are angry because they can't get what they want and throw a fit. Be the leaders in the right direction and tell the idiots to shut up. Don't put their words in your mouth even for a second. If you catch yourself being angry over anything other than pure evil, it's your words and not the situation that are causing it.
In College they'll all have to compete at the top level. It's not about giving people awards so they are happy. It's about teaching them what commitment means.
It doesn't matter what policy changes you guys make happen. What matters is that you get people saying the same positive messages everyday over and over. That's how we will see positive change. And you are the largest voice of wrestling at this point. And it will grow if you are leading everyone in the right direction. More people will listen, including people with a growing interest in wrestling, simply because they see all the happiness it brings to everyone involved.

Doesn't Cornell have the #1 recruiting class in the country next year or a close 2nd to Iowa? I don't understand Martin's comments on Penn St. getting all of or close to all of the A+ recruits in the east?

Supply and demand economics don't apply very well to a sport like wrestling which generates relatively little to no profits. There is a huge demand for college wrestling opportunities based on the thousands of HS wrestlers. However, since there are few profits, if any, to be made off of college wrestling programs (not to mention the need to adhere to Title 9 requirements), colleges are reluctant to supply the opportunities. Designating more state hs placers in CA won't unfortunately cause colleges to create a greater supply of opportunities. That will only come through changes in how Title 9 is enforced and applied, and bigger budgets created by a better economy.

So if Bader's gonna be at the dual meet on saturday, will there be footage going up on flow? I don't have Big ten network, but I checked their schedule for wrestling broadcasts, and it didn't have the dual on saturday listed. So if big ten isn't airing it, and only one team is in the big ten (remember you put up the matches from Iowa State vs Iowa, which was also big ten vs big twelve) shouldn't you be able to post all the matches from this dual. Please! I NEED to see this dual.

Most kids that don't qualify for the state tourney in CA probably wouldn't make a college wrestling team because they just are not that caliber of wrestler. Watering the state tourney by dividing it into classes won't make those wrestlers any more qualified to wrestle in college. Almost every kid from CA that wrestles in college was at least a state qualifier. Of course, there are exceptions. I suppose it depends on whether you believe the chicken or the egg came first.

Not trying to be a , I like the new format but it would be better to keep flocenter the way it was and, to do this style of a thing separate (pardon the floturuption?) Just a suggestion, I know you guys work really god dam hard already.

The 1 class system doesn't preclude kids from developing or participating in California. CA still has many thousands of kids competing and lots of stud in high school; it's just a lot harder to win or place in the state tourney. It's rugged but the trade-off is the you really do know who the best guy is in each weight class. There is an argument to be made that it's harder to figure out which kids might make good college wrestlers because there are very few 2 and 3-time state champs. With that being said, I don't think that argument really holds water as most recruiters know which are the elite wrestlers in CA. I think what makes it hard to recruit CA is that it is geographically distant from the Big 10, Big 12 and EIWA schools so it takes a lot more expenses and time to travel to CA. Also, there are so few opportunities to wrestling at CA colleges because of Title IX and budget cuts so that numerous kids who would otherwise wrestle at a CA college don't do so. CA college opportunities haven't decreased because of participation at the h.s. level in CA nor have they decreased because of the 1 class system. Rather, they have decreased because of Title IX and budget cuts. Do states like AZ, WA and Oregon really need so many classes? Not really. Even though CA is so large, it doesn't need additional classes either.

Totally disagree. Kids, if they don't make the state tournament probably don't think they can wrestle in college. Thus decreasing demand, probably a lot more in the Community college, DIII and DII fronts. Plus a lot of passionate wrestlers come back after college and get into HS coaching, but if they don't do it in college chances are they would grow more distant from the sport and lose touch with it....just saying.

I love the different look of the show. You guys are gonna make this thing bigger than ever.
You guys should have bullet points on huge cue cards off camera so you can hit the big points of the coverages. Too many tangents. Martino is the King of the Tangent. Try to have one guy be the straight man to keep the thing moving along and use the other guy(s) play off of the one straight man. Think of the NFL or ESPN football and March Madness coverages where one guy takes a strong lead. Joe and Bader could trade leads on each story. Martino is pure flavor, but he needs to be reigned in to keep it entertaining. I think Bader actually has the chops to be the straight man announcer type and Joeflo does great color commentary.
Just some thoughts from a FloFan that has no idea what he's talking about. Just putting some feedback out there.
You guys rule! Keep pushing the envelope. You are the leaders in wrestling coverage.
