ive heard this story before, the story i heard was that Gable found him with a bag full of groceries (potato chips etc..) walking out of Iowa city. He bolted a stationary bike to the floor of a van and started driving Barry to where ever the Big 10s were. he made weight and won it. love this story

My favorite Hawk of ALL-TIME, I can listen to Barry's stories forever, one of my favorite tales and finally hearing it from Barry himself. God Bless you Barry, you competed with an intensity and PASSION that was truly unmatched to this day. You taught me so much as a wrestler, as a coach, and a human being, thank you!
