"Genuine Christian"? I was unaware that taking time to belittle another person over the internet because they took a second to thank god after a great accomplishment in their lives was a "genuinely christian" thing to do. You and I can sit and judge these guys all day and say, "he's not really a christian he's just saying that like all of the other athletes" but the truth is we really don't know.

Wow, "Genuine Christian." It's not cool to be throwing your opinions/assumptions around without really knowing who you are talking about. Get to know Tervel and you'd find out that he lives his faith, day in and day out, on the wrestling mat and off it; praying before meets that win or lose, he finds the opportunity to talk about Jesus with whoever will listen. He desires to do his best, prays the same for every person he wrestles, and hopes to learn and grow from every match and glorify God in the process. You can't find fault with that GENUINE of a person.

And FYI. The AWESOME thing about our God is that he does care about us... you...me... Tervel and his third period clinches along with Steve Mocco and his first period ones. He won't intervene just as we shouldn't desire Him to. Thats what practice and hard work are for. So ya, He's pretty busy with wars and poverty and hunger, but He also gives us dreams and goals and He cares whether or not we pursue them.

I don't read in Tervel's coments that he thinks Jesus helped him win a clinch. I just think that Tervel has an opportunity, where someone put a mic in his face, to sing praises about his God. As Paul says, "to live is Christ...." Tervel lives for Christ in victory and defeat, just no one sticks a mic in his face after a defeat.

It is kind of like that song you sing in Sunday scool...This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.... If a "genuine Christian" wants to hide his light under a bushal, or try and stomp out someone else's...well then I doubt his Christ is the same as Trevel's. Jesus didn't sacrifice himself on our behalf to just sing his praises when it is less offensive, or only in our holy huddles.

I agree with The Genuine Christian. These public displays of God gaming turn spirituality into a popularity contest, as if God would actually take a side in a clinch. Respect your faith...by keeping it spiritual and in the proper setting.

I saw a comedy bit one time that took the other side of this...

Reporter: So talk about the game; what are you your thoughts?
Losing team member: Oh, we were in the game... Until Jesus made me fumble. He hates our team!
Funny stuff.

When will these guys learn that Jesus Christ has better things to do then help them win wrestling matches. Famine, pestilence, disease, war and oh yeah, helping Tervel with his third period clinches.
And what is up with the interviewer encouraging this stuff...you don't ask a question like that unless you work for the 700 club. The ultimate sign of self importance and arrogance is to think oneself so important that the almighty will take the time to intervene in the daily happenings of one's life.
This is not to single out Tervel out but instead is a message to this new breed of wrestler who cannot seem to stop yapping about the good lord in every interview after their matches. You want to show us how you are filled with the spirit of Jesus christ than talk to us about all the time you spend volunteering at women's shelters, cancer wards, or orphanages. His spirit and message was to in his name sacrifice and do good deeds for those less fortunate. His name was not meant to help you hit better double legs.
