Jake , Thank you for your effort and success...move on to the MMA.
Your fame is over in the wrestling world.

Jake has become too predictable in his matches now. Everyone else has adjusted to his style. He hasn't made the adjustment to them.

you guys are dumb 2 years ago

you are saying that herbert needs to pick it up and isn't the same. He's too much the same. the Russian block has him scouted very well and they will trade him with arm throws (3) for his sweep single (1) all day. he does need to be able to attack and at least counter out of an underhook because that seems to be where he got in trouble. what do you guys think?

Jake's good, but just not at the top level at the moment. This Andrey Valiev dude is like Russia's 8th stringer. Herbert is approaching the match sorta like a folkstyler. He needs to chill a bit and get his technique going. The Russians are lightening fast, technical and unpredictable. Herbert played the Rambo card, which is rewarded in folkstyle, but not in any other style of wrestling on the planet.

Just my opinion 2 years ago

Looks like the US Freestyle team could use some Greco Roman practices. Most of the matches the US won, the shots came from the outside with heavy hands and lots of motion. The matches the US lost and points that were given up came by way of tie ups(two on ones) and counters off bad shot selection. Herbert got hit with a front head lock, arm drag, and arm throw. These are 3 moves mostly used in Greco Roman. Bunch got it with a drag and a trip off a over hook. It also look to me like the Russians were working alot of two on ones which closes the gap from what the US teams strengths are and thats wrestling from the outside. The US team has to be more comfortable wrestling out of tie ups( under hooks, two on ones, over hooks, arm drag defense and wrist control.
The Russians style of wrestling has many simularities of basic moves used in Greco Roman wrestling. There are not many US freestyle wrestlers that do arm throws, arm drags, over hooks, and under hooks so they can't feel the reaction or can't feel how to counter. I would like to see a joint training camp with the Freestyle and Greco teams.

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

didn't herbert also lose to max askren last month?

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

Herbert hasn't been the same since winning that silver medal at the worlds. Hope he picks it up again. The Askren loss, though not freestyle, had to hurt as well.

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

Damn, Herbet, you got tossed around pretty good. Definitely did not expect the match to go like this.

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

Yeah the russian just took advantage of Herberts driving into you style and just used his momentum against him

Herbert gives up way to many points in this style. Needs to tighten up the screws.
