2011 NCAA Wrestling Championships

Not only is she cutting the wrestling program, but it is not for money…the money is being diverted to other athletic programs that they have an invested interest in (programs that she says puts UNCG on a national map). I thought that you only division one program, a major tournament, winning the conference last season and taking second this session was pretty big….no????

To save money keep basketball at the university instead of putting out money to play off campus. That will save a ton of money and it will feel more intimate. The basketball team does not draw enough people to fill the campus gymnasium, why put them in a big arena?

I had never knew of UNCG until the Southern Scuffle. If UNCG wrestling is no longer then the Scuffle should be moved. And don’t let CD Mock run it in Greensboro like I am hearing. All coaches should boycott a Southern Scuffle held in Greensboro without a UNCG team.

The same goes for Super 32, College and University coaches should boycott this event if it is being held in Greensboro. It would suck to lose this tournament, but the people who run it should be ashamed of themselves if they stay in Greensboro, or NC for that matter.

The NC state tournament is also held at in Greensboro and it is my understanding that this is contracted out for X# of years. There should be a big push to change venues and if that is not feasible, than no NC team should put .01 into the Greensboro economy. Don’t stay in Greensboro hotels, don’t eat in Greensboro restaurants, and don’t fill up at Greensboro service stations.

Without UNCG wrestling, wrestling should cut ties with the City of Greensboro and let the blame fall on those who decided to cut the program.

Is that harsh? YES….But not nearly as cold hearted as coming in to the UNCG wrestling room the week of NCAA’s to announce to the team that you no longer have a program.

I wonder if we could see a cartoon of UNC-Greensboro's athletic director talking with local corporate sales directors after the wrestling community pulls out of the Southern Scuffle and Super 32? There's a humorous wrestling cartoon that inspired this thought, now featured on FloWrestling:

Seems like the money generated by the big tournaments they host could help sway the AD's decision. I think their best bet is for the Community and businesses that profit from the tournaments to put a little pressure on her decision. Her decision is financially based, so you need to give her a financially based reason to change her mind.

One of the best things you can do is e-mail the president of the school and tell them they will no longer receive donations from you your family and everyone you come in contact with. I sent that e-mail to the president of ASU and I am sure my response and thousands of others and sunkist financial support enabled them to bring wrestling back.
