Pat Milkovich was a National Champ as true freshman and 4 time finalist 2X Champ.... that alone should be at least top 20 not bottom ten...

Fellas - I am a 47 year old misanthrope who detests nearly everything about today's popular culture, so coming from me, what I'm about to say really means something:

You guys are awesome.

When r we Gunna see the next preview?

Cliff Fretwell 2 years ago

I understand ya man but we can't make a list on what if's and maybe's on careers there has to be a benchmark. 3 time finalist and zero senior level world or Olympic medals is hard to compare to the rest of the list. Again this is 2 guys opinions so we aren't gonna see it the way everyone else might but we tried to give NCAA + senior world level events (Olympics and worlds) as major credentials for the list. Goldman 4 time finalist didn't make it and I'm a Hoosier.

Ed Ibleundies 2 years ago

You gus have got to be kidding not one guy on either of your lists was better than Alan Fried. First 4X Junior National Champ, and arguably one of the best highschool wrestlers of all time. Kolat is the only other guy in the discussion. Espior World Champ, 3X NCAA Finalist 1X NCAA Champ, only year not in the finals Okie State was on probation and he couldn't participate. Otherwise your looking at a 4X finalist and 2X Champ. after college injuries really cut his carrer short. He was competing for world teams in high school and college. Big mistake not having him on the list. Unless he's higher on the list, but i'm pretty sure Roper said that he was one of those guys who was on the outside.

To the poster who called Chris Taylor a 'big fat guy'... The man was an NCAA champion, an Olympic medalist and a wonderful, kind person. He made his mark on the sport and made it better for his presence. RIP Chris Taylor.

WOW #44 ROPER---hehe this is gonna get interesting

As a wrestler, Zalesky enjoyed one of the most distinguished careers in Hawkeye annals. A four-time all-American (1981-84), he won national titles his last three years at 158 pounds. He was undefeated as a junior and senior, and concluded his career with an 89 match winning streak. He was named Outstanding Wrestler at the 1984 NCAA Meet, and Amateur Wrestling News named him the Wrestler of the Decade for the 1980's.
Zalesky narrowly missed qualifying for a spot on the 1988 Olympic squad, finishing second (163 pounds) at the U.S. National competition. He is a member of the United States Coaches Association.

Point made on Chris Taylor, no disrespt intended!

Craig Vitagliano 2 years ago

Kenny Monday won Tbilisi as well, in 1988. There were others.

wasthatatakedown 2 years ago

1 of 2 US citizens to win it***

wasthatatakedown 2 years ago

Gene Mills 50th????

Tbilisi was tougher than the world championships. Anyone will tell you that. Not to mention he was the OW at the tournament. He is only 1 of 2 people to ever win it.
Side note: Dave Schultz was the other American to win Tbilisi. Dave won it twice and was a 3X Finalist. The first time he made it to the finals he was only a senior in High School and hadn't even wrestled for 4 years yet.
