cisneros is bigger than martinez its quite clear looking at the video so as far as wrestling up thats not a defense for cisneros . also alex isnt stalling at least in the beginning the kids pretty much bashing him out and around.

Anonymous 2 years ago

Alex wasn't stalling, he was wrestling defensively. It's obvious Isaiah was TRYING to get Alex called for stalling. You can HEAR his coaches yelling to push him out and it's blatantly obvious with how many times they went out of bounds. Regardless, a great match with two great wrestlers.

Martinez was a beast this year at 140, winning state and destroying everyone. All you haters on Cisneros? He BEAT martinez in this match at 138 giving up size etc etc... and eventually going 125
125!! thats 3 count them in ENGLISH three! weight classes he was giving up and STILL defeating the eventual cali state champion at his own weight.

Cisneros is a GREAT kid. Humble and loves the sport, he just wants to wrestle.

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

One of the best matches I have seen by far.

curtis 2 years ago

theres a difference between backing off the mat and getting pushed off the mat

Ernie Ciaccio 2 years ago

Quick note. Alex Cisneros is the same kind of kid, and I have had several similar conversations with him. Just a kid like Isaiah who loves the sport. Instead of bickering about stalling maybe we should all take note of the mutual respect these two have for one another.

Isaiah is who he is because of his hard work and the sacrifices of his family. Adrian Hernandez is a great coach and he does it for fun or free. I have never heard him try and take credit for anyone's success. Adrian will be the first to tell you Marcio Botelho is one of the nicest guys in wrestling and a former NCAA all american. If you think he, the Lemoore program, and practice partners like Dillon Rocha, Silverio Esparza, Nick SIerra and others have done nothing to aid in his development your nuts. But at the end of the day it is everything the kid does that you don't see, that is not mandatory, that is of his own and on his own that makes him special. Quick story last summer we had an all star event with some studs from Michigan and Jersey coming to Cali. When we were looking for kids to fill the CA team one of our best kids said Im only participating if I get all the matches in the event at my weight, our next call was to Isaiah and his response sounds like a cool event Ill wrestle. I then ask him if hes cool splitting matches, he said coach its what I do on Saturdays and every other day, one match, no matches or five. That is why he is special, and that is why he will do great things at the next level. You cant coach that.

didn't Coach Hernandez from Corcoran make Martinez the great wrestler he is now?? everybody is saying "oh isaiah is doing so good" and sayin that Lemoore has done a good job with him but lemoore hasn't done anything but get him publicity..

letsgoalex you must be blind! All martinez did was attack and shoot.

Martinez isn't working an offense, he's just hobbling at him on one knee pushing forward like a maniac. not stalling. martinez is a freakin spaz

ok i must say martinez shouldve tech falled him based off of stalling calls alone lol! the refs were obviously blind cuz da first 10 seconds of the match alex was fleeing the mat which is automatic 1 point as i recall!

Just Wrestle 2 years ago

These guys will both be state champions in california this year. But in an honsest opinion Martinez is a better wrestler, just didnt look like he wrestled his best match. But both of these guys are brawlers. GREAT MATCH!

lets go alex 2 years ago

martinez didnt shoot once this whole mtch. he had no leg attacks so credit for alex shooting and winning. pushing someone out of the mat 15 times doesnt mean ur not stalling

martinez didnt work anything the whole match, pushing the other guy out is not stalling on cisneros, its more toward martinez for not working anything

ThatDude 2 years ago

cisneros is yoked now

all in all this is a great match but the ref just sucks.

west coast can't call stalling??? i had four stall calls and one stalemate call with the first match in this tourney. the amount of complaining from coaches/parents about stall calls was humorous. the tirapelle's were there in bulk. they see stalling called in CA and i surely made a plethora of stall calls all weekend. the level of competition was so high, the kids are typically more fundamental and sound in their execution. they don't typically flounder around like many average matches throughout the year. yes, AC stalls, and he does it well; hence, he was not called for it much. i hit him with some in earlier matched. he continued on his ways. good wrestlers, good competition. just look at the # of people surrounding the mats watching these matches!

First off, adding this pushout rule to folkstyle would be the demise of this sport. The pushout rule changes strategy far too much, and not into being more aggressive. Anytime your within a few feet of the edge, you have to change your game plan into not getting pushed out, rather than thinking about scoring for yourself. Second, just because someone is being "aggressive" by bulldozing into his opponent, not working for angles or shots doesn't mean the other is stalling. I'm far from a Cisneros fan, and I can't blame him a bit, when someone is driving straight into you, trying to sumo back at him is only going to get you into trouble. He did what his best option was, which was to weather the storm. However, there were points where he backed up out of free will, which could have been called, but Isaiah wasn't working anything other than a Bum Rush hoping to get bailed out by the stall call. JMO.

Say what you want about Alex. He's a great kid, an outstanding student, one of the hardest workers in high school wrestling, and he knows how to win. I'm always impressed by his mat sense and match strategy. When all else is equal, that's often what separates the winner from the loser. There's a reason he's only lost once in two years of high school wrestling, and it's not superior talent. Great intensity in this match and really fun to watch. Kudos to both boys for their efforts!
