and even better idea is this. take the $10 you speak of out of the current fees. then the big wigs can split up the rest. its currently at about $35 now. so by the info provided 4.05 mil would be left over not including what they take in from their events. with out us they do not exist!!! this is very interesting to say the least!!

i have always wondered where the $70+ i spend on myself and the other $210 some years i spend on my nephews went to. where can we find this info out?? why hasn't USAW made it clear where the money goes? why are we paying figure heads big salaries? shouldn't they being doing this as a part time affair? why arent the people (wrestlers) that are putting all the time in getting my membership funds?

Tom i have a better idea than to raise the fee. why not cut some salaries back? why not make this more about our future wrestlers then some guys in an office? this type of thing burns my ass. it almost makes me not want to be apart of the USAW!!!

wrestler can make a salary and wrestle. I know 20 wrestlers that are doing it. to include 3 world medalists.
dremiel byers, iris smith, and Cejudo.
Instead of wrestling free-style, wrestle Pay-style.

how little some of you know. not one dollar of our card money goes to the athletes salaries. the money they get comes from the OTC and USOC grant, not from card sales. the money from card sales pays for all the execs and 30 some odd employees at usaw.

so when those usaw blowhards talk about how our dollars from card sales help with the olympic dream, they are full of it. none of our money goes to the athlete.
you know how much our athletes got last year? about $360,000 divided amongst 115 athletes. do you know how much rich bender made alone? $180,000 plus benefits. the other 5 highest paid execs made between $95-000 to $120,000. Total employees cost- $2.8 mil for 30 or so employees and $360,000 for our athletes. Doesn't anyone in this country see what is really going on? People are being swindled, most importantly our athletes.
and the living the dream fund is slowly becoming a joke. that money should be added to their weak annual salary.
however usaw has no desire to get our athletes a higher annual salary. they'd rather keep them poor and the execs happy in their ivory towers.

I just spoke to a guy on the team and he said that when coach Zeke arrived he helped every national team wrestler get a raise. But on top of that he was the guy that sat with the leaders and advocated for the dream fund. So if you ask me, he cares about guys getting money. More than anything though when I listen to him I don't hear money, I hear him talk about achieving the ultimate goal, the life long goal of winning a gold medal.

although i agree with what you're saying, i don't think USAW is making enough money to make that happen. they're spending the majority of what they earn on plane rides, camps, and coaches that they're not really profiting that much, if anything.
Brandon,

What I've been advocating for for years is that USAW permanently raise the price of their individual membership by $10. Every cent of that money annually would go ONLY towards providing annual salaries for three resident athletes at each of the 18 OLYMPIC weight classes. (7 Free, 7 GR and 4 Women) Raising the individual membership price by $10 would generate $1.62 million, that is if USAW's numbers are accurate that their current membership base is indeed 162,000 members strong. Divide that by 18 and each weight receives $90,000 to be split among three resident athletes under contracts that would be renewable on an annual basis.
Also, change the way the current stipend structure works for the top three wrestlers at each weight class and give that to the three residents at each weight class under contract based on rankings. I don't remember what those stipend amounts are, but essentially the number one guy would be receiving his $30K plus his/her stipend, as would numbers two and three.
All of this is before the resident athlete benefits, anything they receive in terms of sponsorships and the "Living the Dream Fund," should they earn a medal in World competition. If other guys want to stay out of Colorado Springs and not focus full-time on wrestling while having other jobs and being coaches, so be it. That is their prerogatives and they can find the necessary funding to support their trainings.
One other thing that could be done is to raise the membership price for a few years, collect the money and then endow it, but I prefer a permanent $10 increase.

"We want to reward our athletes for their life-long commitment to the sport"; "We can't compete without the vital resources to be good."

Zeke, please tell me that YOU haven't fallen for this crap, too. Let's see, dangle a carrot over the heads of all the international wrestlers and we'll ONLY reward your "life-long commitment" if you medal? Seriously?
I said it on another post and have been shouting from the mountain tops for years now. Unless USAW makes the term "Wrestler" a professional term in this country, by that meaning that most of these competitors earn a SALARY to be just that--not coaches, MMA competitors or Home Depot employees who just happen to continue to compete part-time when they aren't working other jobs to feed their families--the U.S. can bank on seeing the same results over and over and over again that have been taking place since Atlanta. The LTDF should be a bonus for exceptional performances; gravy on the turkey, so to speak, not 70% to 90% of these peoples' annual incomes should they find themselves with a world/Olympic medal around their necks.
Bender, board members, those with USAW memberships, coaches and athletes, if you truly want to see our best guys and gals picking up their games on the international scene, start DEMANDING that these folks are "rewarded" with an annual salary to be full-time wrestlers and not only will the best guys stick around, but the depth at each weight in this country will grow, making our best guys even better.

PS - jones beat Valentin Jordanov of Bulgaria in 1991, not Gerogio Vallentin.
