PAGrap - The WPIAL is very tough! My statement about District 11 is based solely on anecdotal evidence. I'd love to see a statistical breakdown about the best districts/conferences/counties in the U.S. in terms of NCAA DI national qualifiers.

As for my comments about leg riding, I stand by them. Mark Perry usually turned people quickly (and brutally!) with legs. That IS exciting. However, most leg riding I see today in college results in no scoring. That is NOT exciting. The reinforced parallel leg-ride is an effective way to run up riding time and keep your opponent from escaping, no doubt. It pins the bottom man's hips to the mat, immobilizes his legs, and prevents him from moving. I just think it's stalling and it's bad for the sport. It's my belief that any parallel ride that does not result in scoring within 10 to 15 second should be called either stalling or a stalemate.
As an example of what I'm talking about, watch Ciasulli's third-period leg-ride against Jamal Parks in this video. I think John Smith's head is about to explode as he watches the ref wait nearly an entire minute before calling a stalemate.

Luke,

I appreciated the commentary, well done, I enjoyed watching this match.
Yes PA District 11 is a perennial powerhouse but how about district 7 (WPIAL) this year. District 7 (AAA) had 11 wrestlers in the finals with a chance to win 9 golds and came away with 7. Distict 7 AA had four finalists and 3 golds. But no argument, there fine wrestlers from all parts of the state.
With that said the Dapper Dan match that took place this past Sunday (yesterday) saw Eric Grajeles pin our District 7 AA, 2-time state champion Dane Johnson. David Taylor also had a pin over state runner up Joey Walters, another district 7 wrestler (AAA). These two are astounding, I am looking forward to following their Collegiate and International careers. I am suprised to see no mention of the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic on Flow, The Pennsylvania All-Star team beat the USA All-Stars 30-21. FYI - the Dapper Dan Charities supports the Boys and Girls Club of WPA, a great contribution to society as is the sport of wrestling.

what ugly wrestling, these guys wouldn't have even made it out of my division 3 conference.

its not all about excitement.. its about strategy and getting the victory. your telling me mark perrys leg ride was bad for the sport? doubtful. your argument is letting the bottom man off easy. thats saying "hey you dont have to learn how to get out from legs" "well call a quick stalemate for you"

there are multiple and very specific techniques for getting out of legs. It is each wrestlers responsibility to learn how to do so. Just cause it is difficult doesnt mean we should just change the rules. If you know the proper technique you should be able to escape. Matt Pell of Missouri never won a national title.. yet was never ridden for over :45 seconds his entire college career.

Get off rose's

pretty good match. I really agree with the leg ride comment, if the top man isn't doing anything he needs to be called quickly for stalling or there needs to be a stalemate.

Peter Rose is a legit wrestler, I've seen him tear apart some tough D3 guys. Say what you want about club wrestling, this guy is a stud.
