This event showcases the best talent in the senior class from Oregon and California wrestlers. Come support the best senior wrestlers from Oregon and California competing in one of their last collegiate match of high school. The winning team will take home bragging rights and also the trophy "The Dave Schultz Cup." This trophy is named after Dave Schultz, a wrestler who lived in both Oregon and California. He became a great wrestler in US History, and was one of the greatest goodwill ambassadors our sport has ever seen.

Central Section is the toughest place to wrestle, 6 of the top 10 teams that placed in state were from the central section. Southern is probably the biggest and almost equally as tough.

Blaine 4 years ago

one these are obviosly not the best at any weight in either oregon or california maybe exept for gutches. i think it would be a much closer match if the actual best wrestled the best.

To "John STepleton"
You have got to be crazy to say that Washington is tougher than CA. You didn't even make it to the Masters? That means you didn't place top four at you sub section. You would have had to make the finals at Masters just to make it to state. At which point you would have had to win approx 5 matches to place. So lets say that you were only about 15 straight wins against increasingly stronger competition just to be in the medal rounds at state. I love Nor Cal its where I wrestled but I admit that it is not nearly the toughest section in the state. Don't try to compare your one year career in the north section with the quality wrestling in the rest of the state.

Yeah northern guys talk alot of all the time just shut the up.

shut the up with all the penn kills this, jersey kills this just watch the match you northern pricks

cali is tougher than oregon I hate to say, but the person that picks the team sometimes picks the wrong guys but all in all good job for you the oregon guys who decided to wrestle cuzz if than plan on wrestling in the next level better get ready for that kind of action. sooner or later oregon will get cali. congrates once again cali for sending guys that represented your state well.

It is a opening to the wrestling community and hope all of the D.R.L. teams take advantage of it as well.

I completely agree w/ Navarro. Thanks for providing good coverage for D.R.L Wrestling this whole year.
Hi Luke. It was my pleasure. I'm only sorry the season has ended. Already looking forward to next year. I'm hoping Santa Fe, Cal or La Serna, or one of the others will take advantage of the ustream technology and bring us some live online matches.

Why is it that these sorts of "Special" events always get mired in slap-stick bashing contests over the quality of wrestling in each state?

Obviously not all of Oregon's best wrestlers competed... nor did all of California's best. But it continues to be a great show, in honor of a wrestling legend; and, it's good for wrestling ... until all the trash talk starts.

The bottom line, IMHO, is that California needs to think real hard before breaking the State Championship into divisions.

if cali every year brought there state champ senior or not we would kill OR. Every year we bring state placers and in some cases kids that arent even state qualifiers and we still smoke you guys. Maybe we should change the rules and let the best of the best wrestle in the dual Senior or NOT

I wrestled in both California an Washington State, i dominated the middle school system and as a freshman at wheatland high, i was one win away from making the Masters, My sophmore year i moved to Washington State an GOTdominated my soph year, The style of wrestling is completly different, yet the calibur of wrestling still top notch, I say next year, its Oregons 6A State Champ against Cal's State Champ,

Oregon 4 years ago

Cal and Ore stae meets are pretty equell you match oregons best to cals best now u got a duel half of oregons best wrestlers arent even srs

California brought wrestlers that didn't even place at state. I would say that's more like our f team
Cali,

Don't forget the road it takes to just make it to the CIF State tourament is equal to many other states' State Championship. Therefore, if a CA wrestler made it to state, that is probably level to placing at a Oregon division state championship. It' quite a feat just to qualify for our state.

Dear Oregon Coach,

Any wrestler, at any level, who steps on the mat cannot be called "no-namer". I think it's pathetic that a coach at any level would make that kind of comment. That statement says more about you as a person/coach, than it does about the boys sent from OR. I am sure they all (both CA and OR) worked hard and deserved to be in the dual.

Oregon Coach 4 years ago

I have been a coach in Oregon at the 6A level for over five years now. The list of kids from Oregon that wrestled in the Dual are no namers other than a couple of them (Gutches, Tuck, Elder). So for you to say California brought it's B team, would be like saying Oregon brought it's C team.

videos will be up ASAP...I am having some technical difficulties uploading the videos to the site.

I was there. It was a lot of fun with some great matches. The match at 112 was great because a local kid who did not even place at CIF state tourney beat the Oregon kid who was a couple time state champ. At 125 there was another no show for California and so a redding kid who did not even win the north section was thrown up against a 4 time state champ and guess what he won. I take nothing away from Oregon wrestlers they were great but this again proves that dividing these state into divisions weakens the competition pool. Oregon had many mutiple state champions and to be completely honest...If california had sent every state champ then Oregon would have likely lost every match but Gutches. Great event Cali "b" team represented well.
