Short answer... I think Williams got screwed over; Saitiev usually has the close calls go his way.

Long answer... intuitive scoring to me is 1 pt Williams but I don't have the slo-mo DVD. They definitely step over the line (both of them) before Williams changes direction and hits the throw, nto sure how that was scored in both days. On Saitiev's earlier take down, he steps on the line and the announcer is calling for "no points, he went out and in". Finally, did Williams really get exposure at 3:30?

Craig,
Do you know who is doing the commentary on the video?

Saitiev definitely exposed. If you slow it down (as I have from the original DVD) Saitiev attempts to twist out of it, but does expose. Idk what the call was, maybe that they stepped on the line first, maybe time ran out. Idk. The 1 point by the referee would have been for a "correct throw." If the offensive wrestler completes a throw they will give a point even if there was no exposure. We see this a lot in par terre in Greco.

WHITE Paddle was correct...

I'm not sure about the rules back then, but I saw Joe's feet briefly step out of bounds before he stepped in bounds and made the throw. Does that make a difference here?

Hard to tell looking at it once at full speed but when you slo mo it, it is definetly 3 for Williams. Man, what a heartbreaker for Joe.

Anonymous Coward 8 months ago

you people saying that was 3 are complete morons! If anything Satiev scored.

Cradle2grave 8 months ago

Either 3 for Williams or possibly 2 for Saitiev if the official thinks he countered Williams move. But what the heck does 1 point represent? That makes this decision look even more arbitrary.

unless time ran out, those ref's got paid off. that was 3 for JWil

1st time I watched the video, I was like, "nahhh that's not 3." but then I watched again, focusing on Saitiev, and definitely believe he got exposed.

This is a great match with lots of action. End was little suspect, looked like points for Williams, and they called no points at all. Couldn't see the clock from the camera angle, so maybe time expired? Other than that I can't see why Williams wasn't given any points. You be the judge!
Enjoy!
