When i think of USSR.. WRESTLING GOT FADZAEV... wonder what he up too now a days and what he thinks of the new rules in freestlye...Me a like the wide open old school rules with out the breaks and tie up..... "let s get it on" in my Miles Lane voice..

68 kg prelim bout at the 1988 Olympic Games between 8x World & Olympic Champion Arsen Fadzaev of the Soviet Union and Anguel Yassenov of Bulgaria.I loves me some Fadzaev.Here we see a wide variety of techniques displayed by Fadzaev. Notice all his attacks emanate from the same control tie. All his positions show back straight, head up, trail leg up. In par terre, he utilizes one of his other patented techniques from his cross leg series. I don't really have a name for it but I can recall Glenn Goodman telling me it was called the "Garr Series" or something like that. Glenn learned it from Andre Metzger, who probably picked it up from Fadzaev here. Anyway Fadzaev would go directly to this technique either off of a double or when his opponent would base up to defend Fadzaev's leg lace. Once applied right, it's very tricky to defend and Fadzaev, like most of his other techniques, knew multiple finishes depending upon how his opponent would react. Once he got it in tight, it almost always resulted in points.The Bulgarian, Yassenov was very tough in his own right and one of the few people I've ever seen score big points on Fadzaev. He hits Fadzaev with a 3 pointer in this match at the 2:32 mark. Yassenov also went by Angel Sirakov. For some reason some of the Bulgarians used their patronyms in the Seoul Games. Valentin Jordanov used the last name Dmitrov for example. Anyway, Yassenov (Sirakov), like many ethnic Turks living in Bulgaria at the time, emigrated to Turkey shortly afterwards where he competed for Turkey after changing his name to Behcet Selimoglu. He finished 4th in the 1991 European Championships.Anyway, this one is faster paced with higher scoring. Still, I do not believe that Seoul was one of the Fadzaev's better tournaments. He appeared a bit sluggish and seemed to lag going into the second period in his most of his matches.Enjoy.
