TJ -12-3 and PINNED Barry Davis after leading 9-0??? I literally said out loud after reading that OH MY GOD!!! I would love to see that because, again, it is so hard for me to believe somebody could be THAT much better than Davis, one of my wrestling idols growing up and favorite Hawkeyes of all time! Thank you so much Guru for confirming what I have heard for many years but always doubted. Keep up the great work, we all appreciate these amazing matches that, if it wasn't for you, people like me who LOVE international wrestling, would have never seen. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question. |

Guru, I am not asking to post a video but can you tell me if Barry Davis ever wrestled Sergei Beloglazov and if so, how many times, and what were the scores of the matches. I heard Beloglazov would blow davis out but that is hard to believe watching Barry in college and in matches like this one against Heard, the guy was simply a machine, hard to believe anybody could manhandle him. OK, what the heck, if you have a video of their meeting, PLEASE POST IT!!! |

i noticed you won the university national in 1997. do you have a video of that matchNo I'm actually looking for it myself. The match wasn't that long though as the guy dislocated his elbow in the first action of the bout: I had his leg up and I kicked his other leg out and when he came down and posted his elbow popped out. |

Almost 20 weeks of posting matches you can't find anywhere else and some have taken offense that I asked to "please stop requesting college matches" (gasp!!) and one has even concluded that I'm not good with people. ok.Not only am I thoroughly enjoying these videos as well as breaking these down from a technical standpoint to teach my young wrestlers, but I am now getting a double dose of entertainment at the Guru's CLASSIC responses!!! The frustration jumped out at me, lol!!! Remember the movie, Airplane, it's the counterpoint guy, "Shana, they bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into....I SAY LET 'EM CRASH!" There is always somebody out there taking another angle. Keep up the PHENOMENAL work G-MAN, your matches are very much appreciated and priceless! I have watched this Davis/Heard match a dozen times already, one of my favorite wrestlers of all-time, Gable's first protege! |

also, I can see both sides, and I do think that Guru was a little "short" in his response to the "college wrestling" requests....perhaps not exactly rude, but a little uncouth....Guru knows his wrestling, but that doesn't make him a good with people......just ones mans opinion.....Almost 20 weeks of posting matches you can't find anywhere else and some have taken offense that I asked to "please stop requesting college matches" (gasp!!) and one has even concluded that I'm not good with people. ok. Goes to show you can't please everyone. |

I too would like to see that Kolat video, or at least hearn an Iranian (I think it was against an Iranian?) perspective on it. The American perspetive seems to be that the match was "stolen" from Kolat, but isn't it possible that the officials made the wrong call in the original match and then correctly overturned the match upon review? |

not to stir up the hornets nest even more, but i do recall the Guru posting a match of Gene Mills and Joe Gonzales in the NCAA finals match, so perhaps Armbar figured that Guru had more NCAA finals matches he could share...also, I can see both sides, and I do think that Guru was a little "short" in his response to the "college wrestling" requests....perhaps not exactly rude, but a little uncouth....Guru knows his wrestling, but that doesn't make him a good with people......just ones mans opinion.....and I really get bored of everyone being so "tuff" on the internet.....lets get back to the wrestling fellas...in the last couple of years we lost 2 wrestling programs up here in Oregon, Univ of Oregon and Portland State, and now OSU is calling for program cuts (not football or basketball though), so we have some real issues going in our sport....I appreciate all styles of wrestling and fear for college programs across the country....maybe we could aim our attention and energy at helping the sport instead of attacking each other for trivial issues like what I am reading about Guru VS Armbar......although I would like to have seen that in a match---ha |

Craig, you are picking some excellent matches. When you watch Barry Davis wrestling in this match and then watch him in one of the conditioning videos, then you see that Barry walks the talk in both technique and conditioning. i dont know what your time constraints are in presenting these matches, but if you do have time then I thought that soliciting some the competitors, at least some of the English speaking competitors, to send in commentary on these matches would match the feature even more compelling. For instance, commentary from Wade Schalles, Tom Brands, John Smith, Cael Sanderson, on how they prepared for the match, their strategy for the match, and their move by move analysis of the match would be very interesting to add to your introductory remarks and a good lead in to a future book on the best international matches in wrestling. Joe OAlright, now people are getting a bit crazy. Why stop with commentary? Guru, how about some background music like in Star Wars or Rocky? Maybe we can mix in some special effects too, we can bring in George Lucas and see what he can bring to the table as far as effects go. Like when Barry Davis lifted Charlie Heard off the ground, in the new video under the tuteledge of Lucas, Davis would throw him like 100 feet in the air and Heard would transform himself into some mutant transformer type monster when he landed only to find that Davis, too, turned into a 3 headed dragon. Then the true battle would begin! Folks, the Guru is not a movie director for MGM Studios! Let's all just enjoy the great matches from week to week that the G-man posts and leave it at that, ok. |

Craig, since this is a forum I thought I would ask everyone out there on the forum....I hope those 4 little letters, N.C.A.A., didn't make your blood boil too much big guy, since you only post international matches and all....I forget how you Ivy League types seem to get a little "snobby" about, well, everything .....by the way, nice picks on your Olympic medalists last summer....at least you had Saitiev correct....next time I write "does ANYONE have......" - that includes everyone on the planet who just may be reading/watching this forum, not just Guru Craig....so go have another half glass of white wine and eat some cheese, but leave the tough questions for the folks that enjoy collegiate AND international wrestling (as well as beer and pizza).....p.s, I wrestled with a guy like you in high school, he always thought he was smarter than the rest of us too, but he was just more annoying than the rest of us.....maybe he's a Guru on a Dungeons & Dragons website now, who knows?Hilarious!!! My post wasn't specifically directed towards you but there's always someone who requests Kolat/Ironside or other collegiate matches. And I never said I didn't like College wrestling, just the opposite in fact. Just wanted to clarify that College matches aren't posted here. This site is filled with folkstyle/collegiate matches. This section gives people a chance to view rare International matches. Regarding the Olympic picks, maybe I didn't get all the winners right because Cuba screwed me yet again, but if you read the reviews, I got a lot of preliminary bouts correct, especially at 74, which was the toughest weight, and thus the toughest to predict. 3/4 semi finalists and both finalists is also pretty good predicting. You're right though - I guess I might have done better with my picks if I hadn't wasted all that time playing D&D;with my Mr. Spock ears on while at the same time extolling the virtues of fine dining and instead actually watched some wrestling while smearing pepperoni all over my face. BTW in my experience it's the guys who go out of their way to point out how snobby other people are (especially ones they don't even know) that are actually the most arrogant. |
