While in the Eierman Elite wrestling room, Mike Eierman showed us a few looks at the crotch lift series. Mike shows us some freestyle and folkstyle variations of the crotch lift and then goes into some defense. We also get to hear a little bit about his approach to teaching wrestling that is different from many rooms.

for the posters who felt that mike was a little long winded for the youngsters he was coaching: common sense would suggest that he probably went more in depth with his explanations because he was being filmed and wanted to give the viewers a taste of his philosophy. as far as the "technique" vs "basics" argument...i don't get it. it's ALL "technique". "technique" becomes "basic" to the culture (wrestling) at large as more and more wrestlers start using it (the technique). "technique" becomes "basic" to the individual the more comfortable the individual is with using that "technique". so - "basic" to me might not be "basic" to you. "basic" to you might appear highly advanced to me.i think i know what you're saying, and i agree. sure stance, motion, hips etc. are important, but so is a general series of technique. a basic high-c, a basic hip toss, a basic crotch lift, it's all the same, it just depends on what type of wrestler you are. then you can run something cool or advanced off the basics you know (as shown here). |

i would like to respond to the comment that was made about the difference in college and high school is "scrambling"... thats an absolute falsehood.. the major difference between high school and college is "Basic Technique"... often times in high school kids are forced to stick wit a move because it works for them and because the season is so short and they play multiple sports... in college the season is longer and most of the wrestles only wrestle... my college coach always said that it was up to us to develop our own funk and scrambling.. but all he would coach is basic wrestling and positioning... and it worked because i was fortunate enough to be on a national championship team.. my comments have nothing to do with mike as a person or even as an effective coach... i jus feel it wouldnt work for me and im not a big fan of his coaching style... i also dont think someone would score on me from that position....but thats jus IMHO... |

Mike is an awsome wrestling coach.I was at one time a sceptic and heard all of the lies that people spread about him and his club.I was brought up to not be so foolish as to believe everything you hear.We heard all the junk but I had enough sense to go and check things out for myself. My son and I went one time, and my son said can we join? This was after state and it was in April!! He didn't want to miss a practice and he loves it so much he dropped baseball so he could go all summer. He likes to get there early and I have to drag him out. If Mike has a camp on the weekend he begs to go.He is learning so much and has improved tremendously under Mike's coaching. The technique is AWSOME!!! This will work in Pa. or anywhere else. I wrestled in Pa. guys like John Hughs, ect.I come from a wrestling family. My father wrestled in college against colleges like Bloomsburg,Lockhaven, ect. He was a great wrestler. He is amazed at what these kids can do.When he visits he loves to watch what Mikes teaching and he loves it.The problem is that so many people do not understand his style and technique. They think if they can not undertand it it must be wrong. It is like a mathamatical equation that no one person can grasp in a 2 min explanation. It does not mean that the equation is wrong it means you take the time to learn how to work it out.I watched his kids wrestle and I was impressed with what I saw.I came to the conclusion that this was some good stuff and we need to get in on it.I had to swallow my pride and get out of my comfort zone.It does work if you give it time and learn the system. The people who say it won't work in college ect need to look at Ben and take note. That is like saying to a fifth grader that 2+2 will not = 4 in college, only now in grade school is 2+2=4.Mike doesn't smoke, drink,or chew. He doesn't live off of his daddy's money. He is trying to help kids learn to be good wrestlers and great people. |

He showed way too much there and theorized way too much. I forgot what he said at the beginning and the middle by the end. Those techniques and comments could have been spread throughout a 2 hour practice. Clearly he knows what he is doing, but the little kids he is teaching don't. It doesn't matter if he knows how to do it. It matters if they learn how to do it. |

Clearification time. Technique: excellent. Morons and ninnygoats: bad, as well as a detraction from man's greatest sport. I have always favored the Randy Lewis school of high C defense, yet over the last few years it's been hard to get past his likeness to the great John Belushi. GoCabs and Komeomeo, thanks for a little much needed intelligence. |

coaching like this are great for all styles and levels of wrestling because it helps teach good position and hip control and the most basic fundamentals of wrestling are just that, hip control and good position, whether it be in a scramble or a standard double leg takedown. i think that these techniques can and will work on any level and its great that people are expanding their knowledge and capabilities in our sport while keeping the basics in mind. a double, a single, a half nelson and a stand-up are all great moves, but as our sport expands so does what it takes to be successful. the biggest difference between high school and college is the ability to scramble. college wrestling is all scrambling all the time. you rarely see a clean takedown unless someone gets totally burnt. because at the college level, everyone knows all the basics. |

ok ok, calm down.. i can think outside the box just fine but what im syaing is that this move is not for me and anything other than basic wrestling is really iffy when trying to show young wrestlers. i dont know who you are but ive had the opportunity to watch guys like baskren and other really good scramblers up close and one thing i know is that even though they scramble, theyre basic wrestling is very good.... i dunno if uve ever wrestled askren but he is extremley solid, he has a very good outside single and a nice low single but most of what u see on utube and video clips is him cradleing someone or u may see him funking someone.. jus keep in mind that theres a fine line between solid wrestling and junk.... with these techniques i think the line is a little blurred... |

some great stuff but really how long can this guy talk? Those kids were done listening 3 mins.in haha Great session for more advanced guys that can listen and pay attention long enough to not go back out and be like what was the first thing he showed? |
