Used to wrestle him everyday for almost 10yrs...great wrestler and great friend..

sam thomas 3 years ago

I meet this guy at a wrestling camp in Dover, Maine he knew his stuff

That's wrestling 5 years ago

Who wouldn't want that personality and energy in their corner. That's wrestling! He's simply committed and gets the job done. There is no doubt that he can install a mentality that expects to win regardless of the opponent.

Countrykids_x 5 years ago

We saw him at off season tournaments when he was still in MS. Mena was a freshman when I was a senior in IL. He has ALWAYS played on a different plain. Funny anyone can criticize, but do what he does, we are ALL different. He connects with kids when you don't even know he is. He came out to do a camp for our kids club. Trust me guys all coaches, ALL wrestling coaches, have a diferent side, it's the only way we stay sane in this sport! I use Mike's technique in my room ALL the time, my guys dont know who he is, so I educate them.

who cares 5 years ago

who cares what the ladies think??? this man cranks out lightweight national champs .ENOUGH SAID

who wouldn't want to happy hour withthis guy...can you just picture the babes' looks at this dude...it would be hilarious...

mena mina mo catch a jack ass by the toe

slob is a fag 5 years ago

your so gay hahah. This guy produces national lightweight champs more than anyone. Mena's runner up finish gave iowa the team points to break the record.

King Slob 5 years ago

Maybe if Mike Mena would have brought this kind of energy to the mat when he wrestled Eric Guerrero, he wouldn't have choked away the NCAA Title thus marring a potentially perfect 6 for 6 for Iowa in the finals. Oh well, better late than never King Slob always says so enjoy your vicarious moment in the sun you big fish. Slob out.

hey have you not notice yet almsot is not enough dude you jsut done "almost" win that word should be banned from the dictionary that like someone saying i almost lived..but then agaian they died so it dont matter

Art 5 years ago

Very insightful on how to get the job done. You can see that his energy is driven by the pure love of wrestling. Its great to witness real joy of work.

U Wanna Wrestle 5 years ago

My kids are going to IU, Mena is doing great things for the lightweights and Coach Goldman is doing a great job of being a leader as far as the administrative side goes. Great Job Hoosiers!!!!!!!

I look at every interview on here, and every single one has negative things to say about the kids, the coaches, the program etc. How can you love wrestling and hate all the wrestlers? What is wrong with you people? Do you realize how much work Mike Mena put in with Angel for how long and the feeling it is to win that 3 day grind? If you can't see that Mena is an excited and great coach there is something wrong with you...

Mevans_x 5 years ago

People are so dumb--as others have pointed out, his kid JUST won the fricken NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. A year of hard work for mena coming to fruition. If that happens to you and you AREN'T a little "crazy" seconds after, you are the "nutjub" etc... etc.... (insert whichever ridiculous comment from below that you want).

Sally 5 years ago

How many fat chicks has this guy slept with?

Mena is a great coach 5 years ago

Weird or not, he is a great coach and knows how to churn out national champs
Bucholz?? you are an idiot, look at your statement. How does almost beating somebody make you better than them??

ktd, how can you say hes not head coaching material when he has personally watched the development of the 3/4 past 125 lb national champs....

Just because the guy is goofy or doesn't interview well doesn't mean he is not great at what he does

former 5 years ago

Great plug for his trainer... Kip Smith.
Mena must be doing somethings right.

wrestling dad 5 years ago

That's It...I made up my mind....my kids are going to IU now! Crazy or not, they way kids are these days......they are gonna connect with Coach Mena...He's too Awesome!!..maybe, the IU basketball program needs to bring him in to set them all straight!!! (just kiddin', aint nothing gonna help IU basketball! lol)

Marty Covert 5 years ago

Straaaaaaaange cat. I dig it though. Consider the circumstances - he could have been all hopped up on something??????

ktd 5 years ago

If anyone thinks that clown is head coaching material they need their head examined.

Charlie Falck almost beat Angel Escabedo, Charlie Falck is way better than him!

Kolat 5 years ago

He is weird....he needs to get checked out!!

you guys are nuts! 5 years ago

If you knew the hard work that went into to a national champ by all then you would understand the excitement!

ha 5 years ago

mena is a bit different
but he is still an awesome coach and knows what he is doing...

Woah! Someone's kOOkOO for coco puffs!

champs 5 years ago

Mena does seem a bit irregular. I'm assuming it's just the fact that his wrestler just won. Mena should get assistant coach of the year. That's 3 of the last 4 championships at 125 won by Indiana.

cellar dore 5 years ago

ya gotta love Mena! This guy makes National champs for a living and he's at the top of his game!

Coach Miracle 5 years ago

Mena is a great guy and a great coach. He is excited, as he should be. The hard work that went into Angel winning is not comprehendable to most. Congratulations to Angel and the I.U. coaching staff.
