Abas   June 18, 2008 at 10:51pm
To the below poster: Here's the difference, IF Abas is a little overconfident and y HE has reason to be. 3x national champ nobody in US has touched him in years. He had a torn ACL. And he should still be on the team.

Abas No No No   June 18, 2008 at 9:42pm
abas isn't humble. He was humbled! what do you think his interview would have been like if he won. He was throwing China t- shirts into the crowd after each round looking ahead to the olympics and not the next round. looking at all his recent videos his looks body looks fine. He's getting forty thousand donated to him, plus 1500 a month and he hasn't wrestled a full season in 4 years. Maybe it got to his head.
his match in the semi's he took a long injury time out and stood up and took the national champ right down. Then his first match in the finals he was waving his finger at his opponent and standing up and sticking his leg out, mocking and not respecting his opponent. his actions show that he was gonna walk thru the trials. maybe just a lil too overconfident. It happens to the best athletes mike tyson vs. buster douglas comes to mind

Stephen did great! Considering he was wrestling a younger opponent and with one bad leg, he wrestled like the champion that he is. I am so glad that I was there to see his final matches. He's a warrior and will always be remembered in this sport.

Stephen Abas will never be forgotten. His skills are unmatched. The best in the Country, his knees, ankles are not. Who among us could even think of competing at this level with only one of his major injuries, let alone making alternate status as an Olympian. The man is a throwback from when Wrestlers were noble, humble and Men of true character. Stephen Abas will never be forgotten.

Not only can you tell that Abas is a tremendous individual by his past accomplishments, but simply by the fact that he gave this time to the media immediately after his dream was shattered. I hope he continues to be involved with wrestling, so others can learn from his mastery.

Cejudo Head Is Too Big   June 17, 2008 at 7:46pm
Now iam not trying to say that cejudo is not a good wrestler, but i just think that cejudo is a real y kind of guy. I can a sure you that cejudo will not achmplish half of what abas has. ABAS YOUR MY HERO, REMEMBER NO ONE WILL BEAT YOU MENTALY.

I really don't think there is enough to say about such a great wrestler and cl act. Steven, through out the years your style of wrestling has inspired me and, my whole team. Your pure dedication to the sport of wrestling is simply incomprable. You kind of remind me of like a brett favre, someone who will never choke or back down. I can remember before the match i was surrounded by cejudo fans, and once they saw the end of your third match, they all quickly wished that you would have won. Steven you have nothing to be ashamed about. You have inspired so many kids like me and i dont think i would be the same wrestler if it was not for you. ABAS RULES!!!

You've inspired many, Stephen. Come to Grand Junction, Colorado and work with our eager wrestlers. We think the world of you and the tradition you've established. You are a giant in this sport.

Elliott's Dad   June 16, 2008 at 11:34pm
The message somehow got jumbled, but it is in there. Elliott intended to address you, Stephen, as the Last Samurai. btw: I support his $50 offer

Elliott K & Dad   June 16, 2008 at 11:27pm

Elliott, 9
Stephen,
Thanks for being such a cl act. The poignant moment of retiring ones shoes on the mat is supposed to be just that - poignant. I usually get goosebumps, but this time my heart just sank. When my son turned to me and asked if he could send you $50 to help get you new shoes - my eyes welled. You and your family will know what's best. Know this as well - you inspire. You are a hero to me, my son, and many others.
The Last Samurai,
Windsor, CA
You shouldn't retire, because maybe your knee will get better. You showed in the earlier challenge matches and the second round finals match that you still belong on the mat, my dad and I saw it live. You are amazing. If you decide to come back I can send you $50 from my allowance money to get new shoes.

I have followed you since your days at Fresno State. You have showed true championship spirit in your wins, and you are a champion in the wake off defeat. Your influence has forever changed and benefited the sport wrestling. I was there when you lost and I was bummed for quite a few days. I hope everything goes well for you in your life

Hcwho ?   June 16, 2008 at 8:09pm
hey intresting it's probably an error in your post but you also stated the truth about both wrestlers giving props to henry , henry gives himself all the glory and talks himself up about how powerful he is even in person after the press conference henry was still talking about himself and how abas was nothing more than a street bump that needed to be run overwhat abas said showed was c l a s s !

Craig6650   June 16, 2008 at 7:01pm

Stephen,
Thank you for being the first cl person you are. You are the best!

Legend   June 16, 2008 at 5:17pm
I wish he was around forever. Just a certain mystique about him that surpes all others.

Interesting   June 16, 2008 at 2:06pm
I like how both wrestlers give props to Henry after the match. Funny considering abas has been off for over 3 years and was wrestling with one leg. Cejudo could have been a little more gracious and respectful to abas. Saying he was playing possum and just tired. IMO the special wrestler of the two is and always will be ABAS!
