I think the '04 guys and '07 guys should wrestle in Midnight Madness tomorrow night and I will match you all up according to the weight class you wrestled against Del Vel. This will decide what team was the best in school history. Lace 'em up and let's roll!
In 2004, it was a very exciting season. We have the B-North Title, CJ Group II State Sectional Title. In 2007, we have the A-Central Title, We have the SCT Final Four. These two years for 2004 and 2007 are the most exciting moments in school history.
Damn, I haven't been on in a while. I think I've said all I really can on the subject though. Using a certain set of criteria, 2004 can be considered the best team. I don't discredit anything you guys have to say, Villa and TJ, you have very valid points. The thing is, that just like I was a part of the 2004 team with Dennis, you guys were part of the 2007 one and that means we're all going to be biased. Thanks to the subjectivity of choosing a best team, there is absolutely nothing any of the four of us can say that definitively proves anything, and therefore none of us are ever going to change our minds. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive thats the way things are.

Well we could just say the 2004 team and the 2007 team are in the top 2, for best team in school history. Because there will never be a clear answer. Both teams have there reasons why they could be #1. 2004, won B-north,won a state title, broke the school record at the time, and was ranked in the state for the first time in school history. And in 2007, won A-central, made it to the final four in the SCT for the first time in school history, also was ranked in the state, and re-broke the school record. So in my opinion, both teams deserve the right to call themselves the best team in school history.
I agree with Villa. I still think the 2007 Team was the best, like I said the 04 team didn't have South Plainfield, and the 07 Team just accomplished so much more including 3 state place winners.
Okay first off Allan was not the #1 assistant this year ,in fact I believe I was.The success level of a team both past and present is not always the easiest thing to measure.I think every team in raritan history has brought something great to the table.Raritan wrestling has tought many of us life lessons and given us characteristics that will be us the rest of our lives.Another great thing is the strengh of the program and the family aspect that includes the rec, middle, high, hhh, coaches, alumni, parents, and fans.I guess if i had to choice i would say 2007.As a coach on the 2007 squad i believe that team was the best.Pendle being a member of the 2004 team feels that team is best. The 2007 has a few minor differences which set it apart school wins record, state ranking,SCT final 4. The individual performance does play a factor when deciding. As a alumni following the team and Pendle in 2004 went hand in hand. The better the team success plays a factor in the individuals success and preps individuals for the post season.I feel when looking at the whole season you need to look at individual preformance as well.Pendles 3rd in the state and the sectional championship set a standard for raritan teams that followed. Both accomplishments represented Raritan wrestling. The 2007 team strived day in and day out to get to a sectional championship,as well as striving to place in AC.Now with that being said we fell short in the sectional championship but had three individuals place in AC.All three whore Raritan singlets and represented for their team.I might have a different opinion if only one had placed but having three in one year is very diferent.Another item is the wins and loss criteria.2007 going 22-2 and falling to #1 and # 2 in the state.Pendle makes avalid piont about criteria and each person has a different one to determine best.TJ also has a valid point stating the amount of accomplishments outweighs one single accomplishment. In both criteria even though different, specific commons cancel eachother out.The 2007 team even though lacking a CJII championship has more accomplishments. If either team had won a group championship or district championship it would be clear which team was better. Now im sure Matt and Dennis will try find some way to discredict me but i'll let the accomplishments speak for them selves, i believe 2007 is best and TJ i will always have your back.
Before I state anything I just want to state it has been truly awesome coaching all you young men. I think the one common factor for my years as a coach is the work ethic you all bring! I credit your parents that instilled this blue collar mentality. I have always stated that Raritan may not be the most talented wrestlers but they will give it there all and will go to battle. If I leave anyone names off of here I apologize: 2001 As Pendle stated they layed the ground work, D. Petruzzi, C. Tinari, P Cuevas, & A Vidal athletes who didn't break. 2002 Raw toughness with great work ethic T Johnson, R Kinzel, E Boon, F Carroll 2003Understood what off-season meant 11th grader M Pendle wrestled 105 times that summer M Mason and Alan (Beef) Jacob went from average wrestlers to champions.Andy Vouts brought another level to the program. 2004 Overachievers: TEAM came first! This day in age many athletes are selfish no one on this team was selfish. TEAM came first. T Coull & D Andriola, T Stinson, hearts of lions, S Horn (LB B-North win)M Pendle (pin machine- best mat wrestler I have ever seen- stud) & M Sagos "The Warrior" how many matches did he win for Raritan (Mid N -G Stanley, SJV -K Pardun, DEL VAL Grp II Champs) he had ice water in his vains the bigger the match the better he got. 2004 only had 3 Dist Champs and still won a sectional championship. 2005- Frustrating year, more talent then any team but couldn't get over the hump-Ohara, JSagos,C Rafalko,Shawn Put(brawler), & KWhalen (OW Dist 22) he had one of the best post season runs I have ever witnessed. Lost the damn Dist that year by 11/2 points. Damn Mid N kids!2006 a Handful but loved 'em R Bryant&JShields took years off my life but those two may be the most loyal I have ever coached. J King-one tough son-of-b. JCurry gave it his all everytime out. 2007 GAlexander,C Hannwacker(most popular person in Hazlet- who doesn't know Corey) D Seidenberg (Del Val-Wall Semis SCT), K Moore, Ch Mooney highest final ranked team to date. Final 4 SCT. 2X CaptainTJ Mitchell work ethic was absolutly sick. I pride myself on a hard working room but how T did it was a step above everyone. Great wreslter, Great student but most important Great person.2008 May not have been the best accomplished team but I consider these guys to always overcome adversity. For years with always thought this was the year and as it panned out 8 starters were not in the line-up for what ever the reason. These guys(Bilowus(work horse), Horny(money), Put(it clicked for himsenior year), Susino (nails), Jackson (my prediction- he will be the most successful individual I will ever coach) always seemed to win.
Again, the one common factor was work ethic, It's not how talented you are but how much passion you have for this great sport! Future wrestlers, remember back to these guys and realize what it takes to be a CHAMPION!
The one person who can tell you the best team and has been part of all of them - #1 assistant coach of the year Coach Allan Mui - hey coach what do you think?
Matt and TJ, it is very hard to tell who the best team has been in Raritan history, The 1980 team did achieve a number 3 ranking in the shore that year, this is the highest ranking i have ever sceen a raritan team gain in the shore confrence. I have no idea about state rankings that year. We did not follow rankings like we do today. We were also "A" north champions. (so JT I dont think its a Stretch) I would say the 1980 team was much like the 2008 team, very ballanced, and the coaches got the most out of all the boys. Coach Nucci has asked me in the past who I thought was the best team, and i can never give him a stright answer, what all of you guys have done is incredible to me, i enjoy every minute of it. I hope every year is better then the year before. I enjoy so much going and watching you guys compete. TJ was on both those teams, 2004 and 2007. He is a lucky guy to have been on 2 of the best teams in Raritan history. I know where both you guys have come from, over comming your fears as little boys and growing into men through the Raritan program. Let all agree on this the best thing that has ever happen to Raritan is all the wrestlers that have come through.
